2013 Roster Cuts: Chiefs Release Running Back Shaun Draughn

Running back Shaun Draughn has announced his release from the Kansas City Chiefs via his Twitter account.

Draughn was a fan favorite in Kansas City and stepped up big during the injury riddled season in 2011. Last year, with the return of Jamaal Charles, his production was lessened, but he still showcased his power running ability.

Draughn spent most of the offseason as the #3 RB behind Charles and rookie Knile Davis, but it appears he may have lost the battle to fellow back, Cyrus Gray.

However, with more cuts yet to come, and the fact that the Chiefs have “first dibs” if you will on the waiver wire, truly no one is safe on the roster.

What do you think, Addicts? Was this a good cut, or should Draughn have stayed on the roster?

    Not surprised on this one.

I think most of us saw this one coming. Draughn will get on with someone. He works hard and gives it his all each time out. They were neck and neck going into the final game and Gray just outplayed him against GB. I wish him all the best.

Hey Jim did you see that Denver cut Ryan Lilja? Beg a guy to come out of retirement and them cut him! Talk about a kick in the nuts

      • chiefridgy

        Awesome….Lilja=donkeya** traitor

        • Jim Harper

I certainly don’t feel that way about him. Denver offered him more money to be a backup. Hell I would have done the same thing. If you will think about it, we did not do right by Lilja in the first place and the Colts snatched him off our practice squad, and he has a Super Bowl ring because of it. I think traitor is a little strong. Unless of course you were making a joke in which case that was funny right there. I don’t care who you are!

      • Jim Harper

Yes I did. Now it will be interesting to see if Dorsey tries to sign him again. He is the kind of veteran backup that would be a good fit.

  • Don417

draughn sucked. He couldn’t even avg 4ypc. Goodbye.

  • Chris Tarrants

Yeah he will find work pretty quickly, he will never be a barn burner but he will Nickel and dime a defense to death once he gets on a roll

  • Chris Tarrants

And we cut Rico Richardson! Dumb move dumb dumb dumb. He will be a stud on somebody else’s team very soon. So much talent, great hands, lightning fast and great work ethic

    • Roc

Rico had a decent preseason against 3rd and 4th stringers, I understand he was a favorite but let’s not put him in the hall of fame yet, sorry for the Todd Haley quote
