Chiefs Sign Travis Kelce, Nico Johnson

The Kansas City Chiefs signed two more of their draft picks, the team announced today. GM John Dorsey inked ILB Nico Johnson and TETravis Kelce.

From the Chiefs’ press release:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Thursday that the club has signed tight end Travis Kelce and linebacker Nico Johnson. Kansas City has now signed seven of eight draft selections from the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kelce (6-5, 260) joined the Chiefs as the team’s first of two third-round picks (63rd overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. He appeared in 35 games (12 starts) at Cincinnati, recording 54 receptions for 752 yards (13.9 avg.) with nine touchdowns. He also added eight carries for 47 yards (5.9 avg.) with two touchdowns. Kelce was a three-sport standout at Cleveland Heights High School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Johnson (6-2, 249) joined the Chiefs as the club’s fourth-round draft pick (99th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. Johnson played in 52 games (21 starts) for the Crimson Tide, posting 163 tackles (87 solo), two QB pressures, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions and seven passes defensed. He was one of two Alabama players to play on the 2009, 2011 and 2012 national championship teams. Johnson prepped at Andalusia High School in Andalusia, Ala.

With Kelce and Johnson locked up, first overall pick Eric Fisher is the last player in the Chiefs’ draft class without a contract. Dorsey has six weeks to lock Fisher up and the RT will almost certainly be in camp on time.

What do you think, Addicts? Are happy with how quickly Dorsey is getting the contracts done?

Lets get Fisher done now so everyone will be in camp on time. I like it how everyone is at these OTA’S it shows how everyone is really on board with this team. Only Albert has missed any of the workouts and he has only missed the first one so I like it. While it seems like every year there is someone missing from all the teams this tear shows me they all are ready to go. Johnson I think he will be the starter right off or shortly soon after the season starts and Kelcee he is going to very good I think and will get plenty of plays. I don’t know about everyone else but I am ready for this season to get going. I just hope Fisher gets done fast so he don’t miss anytime. WATCH OUT DONKEYS!

This one of the things I love most about the new CBA. Contracts get done in a timely manner and rookies do not get overpaid before they ever take a snap.

How long did we lock up Kelce for?

Good deal. Plenty of time left to get Fisher’s deal done.

Smooth signings in my opinion. Fisher will be signed once they see him in pads.
