Alex Smith Will Be A KC Chief: Fans React

Multiple reports are claiming that the Kansas City Chiefs have competed a trade for 49ers QB Alex Smith.

The trade can’t become official until March 12th but initial reports indicate that the deal is for a 2013 second-round pick and a 2014-conditional mid-round pick.

Some fans are excited while others think this trade is “Matt Cassel: Part 2.”

2nd round? Are you kidding me? Wow!! I am speechless!!!!! KC paid way to much. Smells like the Cassell trade all over again. Hope Smith fairs better than Cassell. Go Chiefs!!!!!

nathan82
Welcome to the Alex Smith led KC Chiefs. I am stunned. I am guessing now that they will take a qb in round 3 or 4. That sound right to everyone else? Who does that leave for us to take? Does anyone else think they had to outbid other teams, or that they truly believe that this is the qb of the future. You don’t give up a 2nd unless this is the qb of the future.

Tim
Barf City…. Booooooooooooooo.. What a freaking joke….

Carlos Pacheco III
Now that they got Alex Smith, and don’t need to draft a QB with the first pick, how do you know that they may not try to trade down AND get a 2nd rounder from someone else who DOES want Geno Smith?

Soda pop
I’ve been so loyal to this team for over 20 years and its shit like this that keeps us right at mediocre!! Over and over and over and over

I’m fine with Smith, but for that type of compensation he better take us all the way this year.

    • Timothy Dittemore

But he won’t this team isn’t good enough. We have at least 2 years to build up players to be a contender.

      • Steve Blank

wtf are you talkin about….5 pro bowlers and the 5th best run game…WITHOUT a passing game to set it up? dude..get real

        • Timothy Dittemore

5 pro bowlers because no one goes to the pro bowl anymore and you are telling me anyone but Charles or maybe Coulquit deserved it? Dude I live this team read everything about them everyday but even I am not that naive friend.

          • Priest4Prez

            6 pro bowlers guys….hahaha 6

          • Kyle ferguson

You can’t say dj didn’t deserve it, berry didn’t but he did play better at the end of the season get a cb to play across from flowers and the d is top 5, you got the run game already and now you got Andy coaching up the qb should be 100x better than the staff last year

          • Steve Blank

you dont sound naive, you sound ignorant. if you dont think having a good qb, and smith has been very very good in the last 2 years (his only 2 year stint with the same O coord I think)….then you dont understand what effect a good offense has on the defense…

  • Richard Comstock

I think everyone actually likes smith. However what we paid was to much. I do think we can win a SB with him though but we will see. HOWEVER PEOPLE… Lets welcome him in with open arms. No need to cry about spilled milk guys. I dont know what to say honestly. I do feel HONESTLY that our team is better then SF on offense with smith and we have a good young def. Maybe we can still land Tyler Bray in Round 3, he is truly a future star with a huge arm. Lets all take a deep breath and just remeber watching alex smith out dual Drew brees in the playoffs, if we get that guy on a consistant basis we should be very very happy. I just hope this doesnt mean we will also let albert walk and draft a tackel. I think Milliner just became our clear choice.

    • Justin R Groth

Sorry but I can’t just be like hey you made a huge mistake again but no worries I will happily be unrealisticly optimistic about the careers of Charles Bowe, Hali, Johnson

      • Richard Comstock

Justin could you please tell me how you know this was a big mistake? Do you know what other teams offerd for alex smith? Do you know more then Reid or Dorsey? Im confused how you can be SO SURE that this is a “HUGE MISTAKE”.
It would seem to me that your comments are just a knee Jerk reaction. You do realize that if not for two fumbled punts in the NFC championship that Alex Smith could very well be a superbowl champion? Do you realize how lights out he has played over the last two years? Do you realize that he has proven to protect the ball and not get flusterd under pressure?
We are a running team my friend. Alex Smith can and more then likely will lead us to the playoffs. Are you happy about brining Dorsey and Reid to KC? If you are happy then maybe you should let them work there magic. At first its easy to be upset about the pick but who knows, maybe they plan to be HUGE players in the free agent market?
We have to defer to the guys in charge. We cant only like our guys when they do what we want. They know what they are doing. I am sure the guys you mentioned are excited about Alex Smith and you should be too.
Not even to mention we could still land Tyler Bray in this draft. Answer me this one question. When is the last time you saw Alex Smith play bad? We get a good former first overall pick after he already took his lumps. The more i think about this the more I like it.

ANYONE WHO FEELS BAD TAKE THE TIME TO WATCH SF vs NO in the playoffs a few years ago. Alex Smith was a top pick for a reason!

        • Justin R Groth

Last time I saw Alex bad like truly bad was before harbraugh showed up to town which means Alex has had for those with short term memories a whopping year and a half of being decent not great decent. Alex an cassel areso close to clones it sickining both underachieve unless the d can step up. Both have a tendency to telegraph passes and toss picks. I know Alex hasn’t since he got Jim but Cassel wasn’t to bad under NE’ coaching staff or Weis. Cassel has two seasons of avg to above avg years. The new regime copied the regime that just got fired. As for a knee jerk reaction, I have been adamant about kc NOT to go after Alex. I was hoping for us to draft a qb or two preferably.Geno Smith. As for SF VS NO. let’s go a year earlier when the Chiefs crushed then and Cassel was amazing. I won’t lie he has his good times but he has his bad also like agains Detroit which had a porous pass defens or the second game agains the cards. he had lik 50% competition and under 5yrdsper attempt in both games in one he thre one rd and one pick

          • Steve Blank

dude has had 7 O coordinators in 8 years….look what he did when he had the same one two years in a row?

          • Justin R Groth

Who who also had that kind of situation Matt Cassel…. look what he did with the only offense of coordinator he had for two years.

      • Steve Blank

Bowe THRIVED without a good or even average QB….and Hali and Johnson will do better…come on man think about it….with a better offense—better because Smith is better than any QB that played for us last year—and better because Smith doesnt turn the ball over—our defense will be better …why? because they wont be on the field as much….they wont start off with bad field position…and we wont be playing from behind as much…..

        • Justin R Groth

I’m sorry but I greatly disagree Smith on the same tier qb as cassel. both can look good if everything clicks both were bad expect when coached by exceptional coaches. Smith with harbraugh Cassel in NE and here with Weis.

          • Steve Blank

are you high? did you forget he led the 49ers to the nfc championship in 2011 ? no way are they in the same category….any qb can look good “if everything clicks” please dont respond unless you think it through first

          • Justin R Groth

First I would line to hear your definition of “leead” because I remember talking to my family how luck Smith was fro be in San Fran where harbraugh could guide him and his Defense could carryhim. my mom is a MAJOR 9ers fan so I got plenty of time watching smith ever since he was drafted. He is mediocre that’s all at best he is slightly above avg. I WANT him to be good but saying he is a leader or a proven veteran is being VERY loose with those terms. He completes like 59% of his throws total, he fumbles almost as often as Cassel I think the differnce was cassel fumbled every 48.4 while smith fumbled every 48.9,plays. he has a harder time completing passes on 3rd down. See you think I’m a hater but I honestly believe Smith isn’t very good he hasn’t been for seven years in the league only one and a half of those were DECENT not great. I’m sort I hope he excels I hope he does wonders and gets a ring as our starter but I also hope I find $100 in the bush next to my house but I doubt it happens.

          • Steve Blank

lets just agree to disagree…almost every Qb that comes into the league goes through growing pains. I believe he is done with that. Over the last two seasons he has been well above average is stats and leadership…I am going to give im a break on the long learning curve simply because he had so many different coordinators…the game has slowed for him. He will excel…and heres a bold assertion…Alex Tanney will be our number 2

    • Steve Blank

I agree…he is here…its done. Before his injury he was in the top ten as far as qb rating….7th I think…The focus should now be on what to do with the first pick….I would like to see us trade down…get some late round picks…package and get back in the first round….IF we can find a partner…if not…I have no qualms with drafting the best CB…Milliner…then get the best ILB with our 3rd…or a QB prospect…

  • tm1946

Maybe we get lucky…..the extra years picks may be based on what he does on the field. If he gets us to the playoffs, who care what it cost. If not, the extra picks may move down or disappear all together.

What else can we do but hope for the best.

  • Arrowhead Magic

I realize that Alex Smith is a clear upgrade from what we have but nevertheless I am supremely disappointed by this trade.

  • Priest4Prez

    See Ya’ll on draft day I guess….

  • nathan82

I hope that report about swapping picks is correct. It is still maybe a little much, but that takes the sting out.

  • Timothy Dittemore

Are we destined to always have the crappiest management in the NFL?

    • Priest4Prez

Yes, even the Browns are on the up

  • Chiefswatch

Why does this team even have fans anymore.

  • Chris Tarrants

Ground hog day, the life of a chiefs fan! Same thing over and over and over and over! When will we actually do something that makes sense? We waste the first over all pick just to swap LT and not pay Albert his due and then throw our second away for a guy who was benched

  • Justin R Groth

So I’m really questioning why I expected anything else

    • Danny W

The signs were there really. Trashing this years QB’s in the draft, and talking about how they could keep Albert with Joeckel is pretty much showing your hand to me.

  • Justin R Groth

Some where out there Pioli is laughing in a candy paper free room.

    • Steve Blank

who cares what Pioli thinks….didnt we all agree he isnt as smart as advertised?

      • Justin R Groth

That’s what I mean we fired him then copied his first move almost to a T

    • Danny W

The room wreaks of bleach and hand sanitizer. Rumor has he’s trying to fire every old person on the NFL network and he’s not even full time yet.

  • VenTorPraisE

More used tires from San Fransisco. Grbac, Montana, Bono, now Smith. This confirms what I feared, Andy Reid should have taken a break, He has gotten to lazy to develope a Geno Smith who is better coming into the draft then Mcnabb was. I’m done.

    • Steve Blank

if you dont recall…we went to the AFC championship game with montana…then he got slammed on the frozen ground by bruce smith….I will be very very happy to make it to the playoffs…

      • VenTorPraisE

We got 2 years from Joe…And gave up a first for him…

        • Priest4Prez

I’ve been preaching that same used 49er QB line for weeks now when all I heard from my buddies was Alex Smith…I was hoping someone in the front office would know that we remember these things as fans. It’s still fresh in our memories and most of them weren’t good….of the QB’s at least.

      • Larry Devore

TG’s feet were inbounds. KC got hosed that game

    • Larry Devore

      So long

  • Timothy Dittemore

Is there a possibility we change our mind’s before march 12?

    • Larry Devore

      One can only hope so!!!!

  • KCPauly

Here we go again, differant faces in the FO same ole idiot moves 27yrs. of being a fan, I am about ready to walk, I can’t believe this team is still this fucking stupid, nice knowing ya Bowe, Charles, Hali,Johnson, Flowers….I cannot support this shit any longer

    • Steve Blank

start walkin then…and take your keyboard with you

      • KCPauly

        Steve,
as I wrote in a later post, this is knee jerk, I have apologized for it and said as much, I am a very passionate fan for a looong time, I said I will not say nomore negative shit, until I have a reason, I will wait and see what Dorsey/Reid do and go with it, BUT I ain’t going nowhere..GO CHIEFS!!!!…let emotions get the better of me for a minute.

  • KCPauly

Cassel 2.0 I hope we lose every game and these morons get ran out of town like the last Morons

  • calvo

Love it no impact qb in the draft they want to win now are 3 round pick is really a 2nd round because.saints an browns don’t have one u.focus on Bowe an albert contract u fill one hole already at the.qb not to mention we get 3 picks for Brandon carr leaving an free agency coming

    • Kyle ferguson

You make some very good points I feel more comfortable about it now

  • Pealvin

Reid got his man. He has a better arm than cassel. Been successful in the playoffs. We have Charles, Bowe and Baldwin (who will be better this year). We will be fine. Just trade back acquire another 2nd. Then package together a trade for Geno!

  • http://www.facebook.com/andrew.haines.121 Andrew Haines

Let us not forget 10 years ago when we brought in Trent Green, who many thought to be past his prime. Green was avg-above avg, but had a line with 3 pro bowlers and two HOFamers. Resign Albert, Bowe, and Colquitt. Draft Joeckel, and watch as Smith uses his weapons while in the comfort of the pocket.

  • Justin

Wow I’m gettin prepared for another 2-14 or worse record again. Smith isn’t even close to bein worth a 2nd and not even a 3 rd period. Time for Matt cassel part 2!

Ok here is my opinion. Smith is an upgrade to Cassel. Cassel is a hard worker that just couldn’t get it right. Smith started to get things together once he had a coach that was quarterback oriented. This is in our favor because Andy Reid’s reputation is that of turning mediocre quarterbacks into near superstars. Do I believe that Smith is that guy who Reid will turn into a superstar, sorry I was laughing too hard to answer right away. My answer is no. Smith is a bandade that needs to be applied in order to stop the severe bleeding our beloved team is facing. Chiefs fans are the most dedicated to their team than any other team in any other sport, because we stand by them no matter how ridiculus the decisions being made are. This one is a good decision if it followed up by a drafted quarterback who can learn under Reid and come through Kapernick in a couple years. No it may not be Geno SMith, but there are some projects in this draft that may be worth it if the rough edges can be polished. I think we should give this regime a chance and give them a bit of faith, as we have every other regime that has come to town, and press that I believe button and sit back and watch before we drop the guillatine.

  • Kyle ferguson

I see us trading backing picking up a second round pick and grabbing Tyler Wilson or Tyler bray and letting them sit behind smith a year or two, I think this would be the only way to make this trade worth it

  • Billie Cabral

Ok here’s my opinion even after the Chiefs screwed me last year, in the Pioli era featuring weak head, cough assistant coaches like Romeo Crennel and Todd Haley. Tho I was blind with faith for my team. I know I’m foolish. I’ve been fortunate enough to see in person the good days of Dick Vermeil, Preist Holmes and shoutout to the o-line Willie Roaf, Will Shields, Casey Weigman, Brian Waters and least of all John Tait. Note they didn’t have a D. I’ve heard the crybabies on Matt Cassel. Yes he wasn’t a starting Qb but I respect him for never quiting. It started at the Celebrity All-Star Baseball game in KC. A lot of fans attending boo’d him. What kind of support is that? He was a leader whether it be his throwing arm or bad play calling that made him bad. You support your team through thick and thin! Note that he was a pro bowler with now Ku Football coach then Chiefs coach Charlie Weis. That did way better than Herm, Haley, and Crennel combined. After getting nearly killed (injury-concussion serious stuff) and SOME crappy people slash Chiefs fans applauded because of their sore losing attitudes, Mr. Cassel got benched and after pretty boy Bradie Quinn gets a nail broken and gets hurt Matt courageously goes out to get sacked and possibly killed some people still boo him. He never quit! I now have faith in one John Dorsey as he has way better talent evaluation and does a way better job of building a franchise rather than milking one dry while filling his pockets, Mr. Bill Belichek, Cough I mean Scott Pioli! Andy Reid has succeeded in this league as well and with the right front office I am optimistic. Sure I doubted one Alex Smith then he cost me a bet against the New Orleans saints in the playoffs, you remember that it was Alex Smith beating Drew Brees with the aid of a great D like we potentially have. I mean since he has gotten a great qb coach/ former player in Jim Harbaugh which may I add we now have a great qb coach/ former player as well in Doug Pederson, Alex Smith went the last two seasons throwing a 30td/10ints ratio and taking his team to the Nfc Championship game. Now the Nfl fans make jokes that the Chiefs take backup Qb’s like Montana, G.O.A.T to date. How is that a joke? lmao. But I do understand the Grbac, Bono, Cassel, and the frustation of being an actual loyal Chief fan. Anyways back to the subject. Now we have pessimistic cry baby Chiefs fans that don’t want Alex Smith because of the past. I am optimistic! GIVE THIS GUY A CHANCE and be thankful IF we do get him! This guy put his hat on and went to work even after getting a concussion and losing his starting job to help mentor a young player in one Colin Kaepernick. That is noble my friends. Now he has a chip on his shoulder which is a GREAT THING PEOPLE! Everyone knows that there isn’t a Qb worthy of the #1 pick so go for the best option available. I mean who else is??? An unproven rookie? This guy has started games and won crucial games in this league and also is willing to help his team regardless the situation. He will help develop a young Qb in his time. He is a player coach, get the big picture here! Fans want someone NOW, but they are the same cry baby fans. I’m tired of hearing them. Have some class like most of the CHIEFS NATION, otherwise get another team, quit being a baby or both! What you think?

    • Steve Blank

hell yeah…why cant we have more postings by fans like you….I hate the haters…Alex Smith is a GOOD QB

  • Don417

All you poor Geno Jock sniffers feeling butthurt is just downright hilarious. This is Genobust central and now you got nothin. Might as well shut this website down.
