NFL Scouting Combine Open Thread

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Day two of the NFL Scouting Combine is underway in Indianapolis. Day two is the day that Chiefs fans have been waiting for as the QBs will be among the players working out.

Players are often able to significantly boos their draft stock at this event and for Chiefs fans hoping the team will take a QB in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, all eyes will be on Geno Smith.

But Smith isn’t the only QB to watch today. There are a number of other signal callers Chiefs fans should keep an eye on because if KC doesn’t take a QB No.1, there is a chance the team will select one in a later round.

That means guys like Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson and Mike Glennon are all in play.

This thread will be up all day for those of you watching the Combine to discuss what you are seeing.

We will also be live blogging throughout the day so keep an eye on this space.

You have to figure the Chiefs will be looking hard at these receivers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

Tavon Austin running a 4.25 then a 4.31. WR Marquise Goodwin also running a 4.25. If we dont get Mike Wallace I would like Tavon Austin.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

Geno Smith then trade back into the first and take Tavon Austin.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Austin could go early. Do you know if he is considered the top receiver?

      • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

I have mostly seen him as the fourth best behind Keenan Allen,
Cordarrelle Patterson, and DeAndre Hopkins. Though I think thats always subject to change post combine. I saw projections saying he could drop to the end of the first.

        • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

I wouldnt mind Stedman Bailey in the third if we cant get Austin. Only if we get Geno Smith though.

          • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Bailey is kind of a possession receiver though, isn’t he? If we keep Bowe I don’t see Reid wanting two receivers like that in his WC system

          • berttheclock

Austin would really replace Dexter. I wouldn’t mind Bailey as a possession receiver, but, the Chiefs really need a Torrey Smith/Cruz/Wallace type who can separate, fly and has great hands to get the double teaming off Bowe. Of course, the three mentioned were taken in either later rounds or, in the case of Cruz, an UFA.

          • TAZMOSIS

Isn’t Austin really too much like DMc? Seems it would be two of the same. I would like to see somebody in the mold of Torrey Smith. Or maybe Wallace.

          • berttheclock

As long as they dont’ take one who is in the mold of Jon Baldwin. But, great point by Charles Davis about both Austin and Goodwin. He said Austin is a football player who runs like a track star, but, Goodwin is a track star who is trying to become a football player.

          • TAZMOSIS

            Gimme’ the football player.

          • NicholasAlanClayton

Well Reid drafted DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin both young and it worked out nicely for the Eagles at the time.

          • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

A big if we keep Bowe. I wouldnt be surprised if they let him walk and picked up a guy like Mike Wallace in free agency then drafted a stedman Bailey. Honestly I would be happy with that. I just see the new regime wanting their own guys.

        • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Yeah I think I’ve seen some say that Cordarrelle Patterson could be the first WR taken

      • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.aldridge.73 Jonathan Aldridge

he is 3rd best i think on mike mayocks list behind coradelle patterson and keenan allen

  • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

    Glennon is a skinny dude.

  • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

Rank your QBs in order of who you;d want the Chiefs to take.

    1. Geno 2. Barkely 3. Wilson 4. Glennon

That is where I am at now.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

      1 Geno 2. Wilson 3 Barkley 4. Glennon.
Though I think Wilson and Barkley is a toss up. I just want to stay away from the USC QB thing. Im kinda tired of it.

      • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

What do you think of Nassib?

        • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

I like Nassib as a project but I think you would really need to bring in a veteran that knows his role is to mentor and is willing to do that.

    • Chelsii.

      Geno, Wilson , Glennon

    • http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.aldridge.73 Jonathan Aldridge

      1. Smith 2. Manuel 3. Barkley

  • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

    Here comes Geno

    • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

4.56! Aaron Rodgers ran a 4.71. To compare Russel Wilson ran a 4.55. Get excited Chiefs nation because he is going to shoot up the boards.

      • http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWolfx Michael Tavis

        Cam Newton ran a 4.58.

        • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

          Yeah nice speed.

  • jimfromkcj

If the chiefs keep adding 5’9″ players, maybe they should change their name to the midgets.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

      lol

  • jimfromkcj

Give me receivers 6’2″ to 6’5″ who run a 4.40 or 50 all day long.

    • berttheclock

How about a clone of one who was six two, but, ran a 4.71? In 1985, the Cowboys wanted the original and had the 17th pick, so, the Niners traded their 28th pick and their 2nd, flopping 3rds with the Pats and moved up to 16 where they took Jerry Rice. Poor Chiefs had NO chance as they were drafting at 15 and they just HAD to have Ethan Horton. Another great moment in KC draft history.

    • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

      Yeah I like big receivers.

  • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

    Geno looking ok.

    • AKChiefsfan

It’s hard to tell from these drills what they’re asking the QBs to do, they seem more like receiver focused. You can really tell which receivers use their hands better.

  • http://www.arrowheadaddict.com Patrick Allen

    Nice catch from Robinson too.

  • NicholasAlanClayton

Geno keeps growing on me. Obviously, none of these prospects are totally speaking freely, especially in Combine week but Geno does seem a bit less scripted. He’s telling the NFL crew the same things that he would say to student reporters at WVU in videos I’ve seen.

    • NicholasAlanClayton

Not to mention he was by far the best passer out there and showed skills with his legs as well.

  • adam matney

Com on lets get geno in the first keep albert let the jockel go . Would like to see geno behind center with charles.i think we could do something on the offense
