The Kansas City Chiefs have done a lot of house cleaning this offseason but two coaches from Romeo Crennel’s staff will be retained.

Head coach Andy Reid announced today that he is keeping defensive backs coach and Chiefs great Emmitt Thomas, as well as linebackers coach Garry Gibbs.

Reid also announced the team has added Eugene Chung as assistant offensive line coach.

The Chiefs previously met with former Dolphins coach Tony Sparano to be their offensive line coach but there has yet to be an official hire for that position.

I think this is another excellent move. The linebackers and defensive backs are two of the position groups that have done well for the Chiefs the last couple of years. I think it is a good sign that Reid isn’t making changes just to make changes. After making some questionable coaching staff decisions down the stretch in Philly, it appears as though Reid is shaping up a bit.

Of course, we will have to see how this all plays out but right now, I would say I am cautiously optimistic about this staff.
