According to Pro Football Talk, Bill Polian will not be the next GM of the Kansas City Chiefs.

From PFT:

In recent weeks, former Bills, Panthers, and Colts G.M. Bill Polian has been linked in various rumors and speculation to the G.M. position in Kansas City, if/when it becomes open.

Of course, it’s not yet open.  It possibly will be, if owner Clark Hunt decides to move on from Scott Pioli.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that, if Hunt hires a new G.M., it won’t be Polian.

From profootballtalk.nbcsports.com

I have to say I kind of buy this report. It appears as though Hunt is moving toward a situation in which his GM has less power. Polian, given all his success, strikes me as the kind of guy who is going to want to hire his own head coach. Hunt said yesterday that he will hire the new coach and that both the GM and coach will report to him.

There have been rumors flying around that Polian could replace Pioli. This is the first we’ve heard of a report saying that the move is unlikely.

It seems as though Hunt is going to make his move on a coach before making a final move on Pioli. Hunt said in an interview that he was beginning his search yesterday. We know he has at least one interview lined up for today.

Stay tuned.
