Kansas City Chiefs safety Kendrick Lewis has said that he will start this Sunday in Tampa Bay, in comments made to the Kansas City Star.

“I’m back this weekend,” Lewis said. “I’m saying that. Coach hasn’t put his stamp on there but I’m feeling good and I’m feeling confident to go out there and help my team and I’m ready if he allows me to.”

Lewis has been injured since the preseason and has yet to take part in a regular season game. He has been replaced by a rotating group including Abram Elam and Travis Daniels. The results haven’t been so good.

Lewis has been limited in practice the last couple of weeks. However, today he practiced in full.

“In practice I’ve (run) into a couple of guys, collided, (hitting) before practice to challenge myself to gain the confidence I need going forward’’ he said. “I build confidence every day.

“Right now, my shoulder is feeling better than it has since I hurt it.”

This is good news for the KC defense which struggled mightily in Lewis’ absence. The group seemed to be turning a corner last week as they performed quite well against the Baltimore Ravens, holding them to just nine points.

It is good to see Lewis is feeling better. Now let’s hope he can convince Romeo Crennel that he is ready for contact.
