2012 Kansas City Chiefs: Everybody Hurts

The Kansas City Chiefs are seriously banged up right now.

The team has released their injury report for Wednesday. It looks like something out of a horror movie.

Name Position Injury Wed. Thu. Fri. Game Status
Baldwin, Jon WR Hamstring DNP - - -
Brown, Jalil DB Hamstring DNP - - -
Flowers, Brandon CB Heel DNP - - -
Hillis, Peyton RB Ankle DNP - - -
Johnson, Derrick LB Groin DNP - - -
Lewis, Kendrick DB Shoulder LP - - -
Lilja, Ryan G Back LP - - -
Pitoitua, Ropati DE Elbow DNP - - -
Wylie, Devon WR Hamstring DNP - - -

What the hell! We knew Dorsey was banged up. We knew about Hillis. But Baldwin? Brown? FLOWERS!

To be clear, they didn’t practice. They weren’t limited. They were shelved.

Add to that Wylie, who has been hurt all season. Also, Ropati Pitoitua, the first Chiefs defensive lineman to get two sacks in a game since the Carter administration, is hurt.

Oh and Lilja and Lewis were limited.

I…there are no words.

I’ll just leave you with this:

Would you want to play the ravens with how bad we looked in ’10 and now?…. I think they are resting till after the bye week.

I’m not sure about the “Oh and… Lewis w[as] limited” (which I’m reading, correctly or maybe incorrectly, as a resigned “who cares?”). One player comment that came out a couple weeks ago (right before the Saints game, IIRC) indicated that the lack of defensive communication comes mostly from Lewis being the defense’s leader (of all people) and that he was the main cog in the communication. I’m not gonna hang my hat on everything being right in the Chiefs’ defense’s world once Lewis returns, but if that bit of information is true, it’d be a significant step in the right direction.

    • Patrick Allen

The Lewis comment was more of a throw in. Like, yep, Lewis is still injured too. As if the other stuff wasn’t bad enough.

      • BigGil

I’ve actually been looking for a segue to bring up the comment on Lewis anyway (in case anyone had missed it). Again, don’t think it’ll be the golden answer to the problem, but it might be a bigger step in the right direction than people may think.

        • ArrowFan

The golden answer is to Stop Turning the Ball over.

          • Danny W

The Golden Answer is Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, or Tyler Wilson.

          • Chief Hokie

Oh yea my boy Geno is where it’s at.

          • Danny W

            Play like BS for GS!

          • Chiefswatch

FINALLY we will get a top DRAFT prospect and damn are the options open this year. If somehow we dont get one of those names man I am done.

          • Danny W

I can’t continue to follow either without a first round pick at the quarterback position either. I don’t know if I can either if they reach and out think themselves either.

  • Chiefswatch

Sounds like kids playing hooky to me. I wouldn’t want to play the ravens to the tune of boos myself. And when they demolish the chiefs it will give crennel and company another excuse for underperforming. Win win for everyone but the fans

    • Danny W

My thoughts exactly. “Oh coach is sticking with Cassel through the week and we’re playing the Ravens?” MY KNEE! Coach MY KNEE!

      • Chiefswatch

haha yea you can tell they are all sick to death of Cassel “leading” this team. Its funny to think that most likely it is not Coach the
team would be united against but the piece of shit excuse for a QB that is Matt Cassel. Watch man, just watch if Cassel throws an interception and gets boo’d he will get “injured”

        • Danny W

I remember last year when he got crushed in the preseason by the third string nose tackle from Green Bay and for the rest of the season he played scared and in my opinion the hand injury was the excuse he was looking for to sit down. He just plays scared football. He can’t stand in there and deliver. I’m ready to see Quinn already anyway. I think this Matt Cassel fiasco may finally end this year and those of us who have stuck to our guns about how bad he really is can be vindicated by all the nasty nay saying blind lemming homers. Micah even came around man can you believe it. Just one guy left and he won’t show his face.

          • Chiefswatch

He wont show his face cause he is a little bitch. We were getting crushed and Cassel was relieved to go out. He stunk it up all season and was getting a lot of criticism which nobody of course remembers.
