Chandler Jones Works Out For Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have worked out Syracuse defensive end and pass rushing specialist Chandler Jones, according to jsonline.com.

Jones is enormous at 6’6.5″, 266 lbs. His length is what makes him especially interesting to NFL teams and he has been drawing interest from both 4-3 and 3-4 teams.

Here is a bit about Jones from FanSided’s draft experts over at With The First Pick:

"Well-built defensive end prospect who has great upper-body strength and a lot of athletic upside. Very good size for a defensive end, and has the look of a very good NFL pass rusher. Didn’t display great skills as a pass rusher but needs to learn how to use his length better and more consistently. He doesn’t have elite quickness but he does get good timing off the snap and has solid speed around the edge. Could be really effective as a left defensive end in the NFL. Solid wrap up tackler and takes good angles. Able to set the edge but needs to be coached up on not playing too high, which is an easy habit to fall into at his height. He has a really good motor and consistently gives solid effort. I think the biggest thing for him is going to be whether he can stay healthy or not."

NFL Draft Scout has him projected as a late first, early second round pick. You can never have enough pass rushers but I am not as high on this guy as some of the other prospects out there. For one, he’s likely to be gone by the time the Chiefs pick in the second round, unless they trade back. It is possible he could slip to them in the second round, however, I’m not sure exactly what they would have in mind for him.

I think the Chiefs are in pretty good shape at OLB with Tamba Hali and Justin Houston. The only thing I can think of is that a guy like this could be a utility pass rusher to come in in place of the Dorsey or Jackson on passing downs. I’m not sure he has the frame to play three downs at DE in a 3-4 and I don’t see him replacing Houston. He might provide good depth but I think, for an early second round pick, the Chiefs might want to beef up their line or CBs.

What do you think, Addicts? Are any of you high on this kid?
