Romeo Crennel Says He Expects Jim Zorn To Stay

by Chiefs

Michael Hickey-US PRESSWIRE

I am still combing through the transcripts from Romeo Crennel’s press conference announcing the hire of Brian Daboll (we do the dirty work so you don’t have to_ and I found an interesting nugget regarding QB coach Jim Zorn.

Despite reports that Zorn is expected to resign now that he hasn’t been hired as the team’s offensive coordinator, Crennel says he wants Zorn to stay.

“I do and I hope that Jim stays, Crennel said. “I know that anytime you interview for the coordinator job you have hopes of getting it and it didn’t work out for him here at this time but I told Jim that I wanted him to stay and hoped that he would stay and I expect him to stay.”

I would be fine with Zorn sticking around as the QB coach. The Chiefs need some continuity and losing Zorn after he only had one season (with no offseason) to work with Matt Cassel and Ricky Stanzi, likely wouldn’t do the QB’s any favors.

“I don’t know what else might happen for him but if nothing happens for him then I expect him to be here and Jim is a good coach, I think he’ll do a good job with the quarterbacks so we’re looking forward to him being here and going forward,” Crennel added.

What do you think Addicts? Do you want to see Zorn back in KC?

As the QB coach? Sure why not. He did a great job with Hasselbeck in Seatle so I know he's a good coach.

@Kurt Rauch For the love of God, I just want to hear them say ONE thing about Stanzi. Give me something to chew on!

Yes, I`m sure he was the fall back plan. Otherwise they would have let Chicago talk with him. Speeking of, will they let him talk with other teams now? I know I would be a little tweeked if I was unable to talk to a suitor, while being told that if nothing better comes along I could always stay where I was.

@ArrowFan If teams had been interviewing him for OC, we could never have stopped them. If other teams only want him as a qb coach, then we have every right to stop them. Simple as that really.

@LennyNightwolf So as long as you are wanting to promote a guy you can talk with him any time. But for a lateral or down ward more you need permission?

@ArrowFan I could be wrong but I think they can only really block him if it's for the same position. If someone wanted to interview him for the OC job I think KC would have to let him. Now maybe thats not the rule but maybe more of an unwritten rule but didn't Chicago want to interview him for the same position and not a better position

Right now the rule (and it's a punishable-by-fines rule) only recognizes two "levels" of coach: Head Coach and everything else. A position coach or coordinator can interview for a HC position without permission, but to interview for any non-HC position, the team that has them under contract must give their permission. @FmsAmos @ArrowFan

Yes, I would like him to stay if possible as well. And I would like to hear (or read) an interview with him as to what he sees in our quarterback group--especially Stanzi.

i want him to stay!
