Chiefs Move Battle To IR, Promote RB Draughn

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed running back Jackie Battle on IR with a foot injury and have signed RB Shaun Draughn from their practice squad.

I suggested this move earlier this week when it became clear that Battle might miss the last game of the season. Since the Chiefs aren’t going to the playoffs, it makes sense to go ahead and end Battle’s season early and get Draughn up to the active roster for today’s game.

This move doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll see Draughn  get many, if any, carries today. If I had to guess I’d say we’ll see a timeshare between Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster and Le’Ron McClain. Still, the Chiefs might call Draughn’s number once or twice just to see him in live game action. This could especially happen if the Chiefs get way ahead or way behind.

I’ve wanted to see Draughn in action since the Chiefs added him to the practice squad 13 weeks ago. Draughn played his college ball at North Carolina. He is listed at 6-0, 205. The Chiefs will likely bid farewell to Jones this offseason so it might not hurt to get a look at what they have in Draughn.
