Chiefs Gameday Inactives Have Some Surprises

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their inactive players for today’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Some of the inactives were expected while others come as a bit of a surprise.

The Chiefs have a 53-man roster but can only have 46 active players for the game. Usually, the inactive list is made of injured players and bottom of the roster guys.

Here is who will not be playing today:

QB Ricky Stanzi, CB Donald Washington, CB Jalil Brown, OT Jared Gaither, WR Jonathan Baldwin, DE Brandon Bair and NT Jerrell Powe.

We knew WR Jon Baldwin was out and had a pretty good idea that Gaither wouldn’t be playing as well.

The surprises for me are QB Ricky Stanzi and NT Jerrell Powe.

Stanzi is a surprise because of the NFL’s new 3rd QB rules. Instead of the whole emergency QB thing, the NFL expanded the game-day rosters from 45 to 46 players. Still, the Chiefs must not feel like they’ll need Stanzi so he is inactive. They had better hope not.

Powe being inactive has me scratching my head a bit. The Chiefs cut Anthony Toribio and so Powe is the only other NT on the roster besides Kelly Gregg. I know the Chiefs are probably planing to run a lot of nickel sets against the Bills’ pass-happy attack, but I still think it is a little risky going into the game with just Gregg at NT.

I will say this, though, the fact that Donald Washington is inactive has me feeling a lot better about the team’s chances. Washington is a missed tackle/bad angle/poor coverage machine.

What do you think Addicts? Are the Chiefs making any mistakes with their inactives?
