Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. will hold a conference call with on Thursday with KC season ticket holders.

In a letter to season ticket holders, Hunt calls the event a “special conversation.”

After the jump, I have the letter to season ticket holders and my thoughts on the event.

"The last few weeks have been particularly exciting for Chiefs fans with the NFL Draft and the announcement of the 2011 schedule. Over the last few days, we welcomed nine new Chiefs to the franchise who we believe will help build on last year’s progress. That progress contributed to the league’s decision to have the Chiefs play in four primetime games this year, including Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium. At the same time, the labor situation has also created some uncertainty for the Chiefs and for our fans. Many of you have expressed questions or concerns about the status of our labor negotiations and preparation for the 2011 season. I’m confident that our entire organization – including football and business operations – will be ready to go when we are playing football again. We very much appreciate honest feedback from our fans and want to ensure open, consistent communication with you. We’d like to invite you to participate in a special conversation with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and me, exclusively for our season ticket holders. This teleconference will take place on Thursday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. (CT). At that time, you will receive a call at the primary day phone number listed on your account and be directly connected upon your answer. To update your phone number, visit your mychiefs account or call our Customer Service line at 816-920-4237 by the end of the day Tuesday, May 3. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts about our draft picks and the team’s progress, and the Commissioner will be on hand to answer league questions. We are committed to listening to all our fans, and especially our season ticket holders, who are the lifeblood of the Chiefs organization. I hope you’ll make plans to join me on Thursday for this special event.Sincerely,Clark Hunt"

First of all, I like all of you, am seriously annoyed at this entire situation. We have had some vigorous debate around here about which side of the fence each of us sit on. There are folks who side with the players and some with the owners. There are others who think both parties can shove it. Those people just want football.

In my opinion, this “special conversation” between Clark, Roger and the season ticket holders is nothing but a PR move by the Chiefs and the NFL. They know people are angry and have questions and so they want to make sure they spout off more of the company line propaganda to the only type of fans who shell out hundreds of dollars to fill their stadiums.

I’m not saying that the season ticket holders don’t deserve this conference call. They do. They deserve to let Clark Hunt and Roger Goodell have it if they like. If they want to offer words of encouragement and support, that is their right to.

A word of caution though. If you will be taking part in the call, all of your concerns and words of support are going to fall on deaf ears. Telling Clark he is a greedy punk or that he is doing the right thing to ensure the continued success of the NFL isn’t going to make a lick of difference.

They will hear your concerns and that is something I guess, but the exercise is primarily for them to try to explain their side and keep everyone happy.

In reality, it is a sideshow meant to distract us from the fact that there is a really good chance that this whole mess is going to ruin the season.
