Chiefs Get Extra 6th Round Draft Pick

The NFL announced this years compensatory draft picks and the Kansas city Chiefs will receive an additional 6th round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

I am not going to get into exactly how the NFL figures these things (and to be honest I am not sure) but basically when a team loses a top free agent they are eligible to receive these bonus draft picks the next season.

The picks come at the end of rounds and are usually low picks but can sometimes be higher depending on the caliber of player the team lost.

The Chiefs will get get an extra 6th rounder, (pick 199) for the loss of Wade Smith.

While the Chiefs may not dig out a starter with this late round selection, it never hurts to have extra draft picks as they can some times be packaged with other picks so the team can move up to acquire a player.

So thanks Wade Smith.
