Report: Chiefs Hali Is First In Line For An Extension

The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to defend their AFC West title next season but to do so they will not only add some talent but retain some of the players they already have.

Pro Football Weekly sat down with Chiefs GM Scott Pioli this week and they had some incite on where the Chiefs are with signing their stat OLB Tamba Hali.

"While Pioli wouldn’t discuss specifics in regards to his offseason plans, we hear that Hali, who is set to hit free agency, is first in line for an extension."

Well that is good news, right? Now for the bad, which came later in the article.

"However, we’re also told that the two sides aren’t remotely close in contract negotiations, which could lead to Hali being slapped with the franchise tag — something that wouldn’t please the linebacker’s camp."

While it kind of stinks to hear that the two sides are still far apart, I wouldn’t worry about Hali’s contract. It is a good sign that he is first in line for an extension because that means the Chiefs are making him a priority. It is still very early in the offseason for the Chiefs and we are talking about what is sure to be a very big contract for Tamba.

I am pretty confident the Chiefs will get something done, even if they have to use the franchise tag.
