Back To The Future II

Unfortunately my worst fears were confirmed yesterday as I sat in Arrowhead 10 plus rows removed from the Ravens’ sideline. The Ravens playing the role of Biff Tannen were not intimidated by the Arrowhead theatrics. No offsides delay of game penalties or false starts by the Ravens offense. They appeared a disciplined offense directed by Cam Cameron taking what the Chiefs were giving them in their deep zone defense — WR delay crossings and short patterns to tight end Todd Heap. Romeo Crenel effectively shut down Ray Rice and the running game until the defense wore down — the long run to Willis McGahee the exception.

The Ravens defense is a stout mean bunch who punished the Chiefs at every opportunity. Recall the hit on Dexter McCluster by Ed Reed — a savage hit. Although Ray-Ray Lewis has clearly lost a step, as evidence by the long Jamaal Charles run in the first quarter, he still directs a focused outfit in which the Chiefs were simply overmatched in talent.  Speaking of focus, the Ravens spent most of the fourth quarter taunting the Chief fans and mocking their chop. On several occasions I noted Ray Rice, Suggs and others challenging Chief fans to come down and get a piece of the action. You wonder why the Ravens have the winningest road record in playoff history? It is their mental composition, focus and angry demeanor — it reminds me of the Miami Hurricanes of the 90’s of which Ray Lewis was a key member.

The Ravens will have an epic third game with the Steelers next weekend while our Chiefs lick our wounds. It is clear to this old Chief that the Chiefs need another two drafts and significant free agent acquisitions prior to becoming a true Super Bowl contender…in no particular order the following must be addressed:

1.Left Tackle: Brandon Albert is a guard masquerading as a left tackle

2. Two New wideouts: I am not sure D. Bowe is a good fit after his
disappearing act the last two weeks. Maybe this is a good time to
trade our beloved diva.

3.Linebackers: Vrabel, Studebaker and Mays were exposed
throughout the game for their lack of speed.

4.Nose Tackle: Dorsey is consistently double and triple teamed

5.A big back for short yardage situations since good old number 20
(Thomas Jones) is near retirement, as evidenced by his 1.7 yards per
carry the second half of the season

The saddest part or yesterday is the end of great season in which we finally experience some success. We look forward to the day when our Chiefs are again super bowl worthy. After 44 years of rooting for the Chiefs, I’ll never give up on my favorite team!!! Hopefully, we won’t need to use a DeLorean to see the Chiefs win it all.
