Chiefs Rule Cassel Out vs. Chargers

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially ruled QB Matt Cassel “out” for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers.

Cassel had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday and though he did not participate in practice all week, his presence at the Chiefs’ facility on Friday and his status as “doubtful” left a small sliver of hope that he would still suit up today.

In Cassel’s place the Chiefs will roll with QB Brodie Croyle. Croyle is 0-9 as an NFL starter but has never started for a Chiefs team as talented as the one he will lead today. Croyle will benefit from the league’s best running game lead by Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones as well as the game planning acumen of Charlie Weis.

The loss of Cassel will make an already tough road game even tougher but if the Chiefs have taught us anything this season it is that we had better not count them out because they are full of surprises.

Props to kcfaninsdusmc for giving us the heads up.
