Chiefs Give Jamaal Charles Contract Extension

The Kansas City Chiefs are continuing to lock up players that will be key to their future as they have agreed to a contract extension with RB Jamaal Charles.

The deal is for 5 years and is worth $35.2 million dollars with $13 million guaranteed.

The news of the extension was first broken by Adam Schefter of ESPN via Twitter.

The move is a brilliant one by GM Scott Pioli. All season long he has been locking up key players. We’ve already seen OLB Andy Studebaker and MLB Derrick Johnson receive deals and now it is Charles’ turn.

The deal will lock up Charles through 2015.

I love what Pioli is doing. He is getting these guys signed during the season rather than waiting until the year is over and they have a chance to become free agents. Not only will these moves free up Pioli to spend time looking for free agents it also sends a message to potential new Chiefs that KC takes care of their own. That will make KC must more attractive to free agents.

It looks as though Pioli is getting ready to have a very busy offseason and he doesn’t want to waste time negotiating with players he already has on his roster.

What do you think Addicts? Do you like the way Pioli is going about re-signing his players?
