Haley Gives Chiefs A Break From The Heat

The Chiefs have 2 practices today as they continue their 1-2-1-2 practice format. Today’s morning practice, however, will be held inside and will be a closed to fans.

Today also features the first night practice of training camp. The Chiefs will take the field at 7:15 PM (CST) and will work under the lights until 9:15.

While I am annoyed that the morning practice is closed, I like the fact that Haley decided to move it inside. As we learned from our reporters yesterday, Tuesday’s practice was very, very hot. With a night practice already scheduled for Wednesday, Haley likely figured he could give his players a break from the heat by moving the afternoon practice inside.

This will give the players a full day out of the sun. They will will sweat a lot less which will enable the guys to stay hydrated and avoid cramps and muscle pulls. The time inside will also enable the team to work on some plays that they likely want to keep a secret.

The night practice, which will be #9 of training camp, will help the team get some reps under the lights. Considering their fist game will be played on Monday night, this is another good move.

Today’s practices have a great chance to be productive both physically and mentally for the Chiefs as they start the real grind weeks of camp. Let’s hope the players rise to the occasion.
