Practice Wrap Up

by Chiefs

I had a pretty rough day today and like clockwork, the staff stepped up and kept the content rolling. I have been reading through Twitter and various other reports from today’s practices.

Here is a breakdown of what I have read:

* Waters is still being held out of practice. His injury is not thought to be serious.

* The battle for the starting ILB spots is heating up. Mays, Williams, Johnson and Belcher are reported to be racing each other around the field from drill to drill. They’ve been told the competition is still anybody’s game. Hopefully the competition will get the best out of all 4 men.

* Quinten Lawrence is getting praise for his work on special teams.

* Though training camp is now in full swing, the Chiefs players are still coming out and working hard. Haley is very happy with the desire and work ethic the team is showing. I remember last year the team had a lot of up and down days. This year, so far, it seems like most of the practices are uptempo and productive. Let’s see how long they can keep it up.

* Tyson Jackson is feeling much more confident than he did last year. He said the difference is night and day.

* I am seeing a lot of reports that McCluster and Cassel seem to be developing a nice rhythm.

* To end the afternoon practice, Haley had the offense and defense square off in a two minute drill. The offense started out well and Cassel completed his first 3 passes. Later in the drive, facing a 4th and 2, Cassel delivered a pass only to have Eric Berry dive in front of the ball and bat it down.

Overall it appears that Moeaki, MCCluster and Berry continue to impress. It is a great sign t see the draft class making plays so early in the process.

That is all for tonight. We’ll see you back here tomorrow.

Patrick-great analysis-we arm chair fans need to understand these opportunities that win/lose games can come down to just a few key snaps over the course of a professional game. At any level the momentum(sp) can make a big difference on the scoreboaard. ITs real early in the pre-season;a week for now lets review how the first week of AA went and go from there. Looking forward to updates later in the day.

You know I read this again this morning, and its kinda hard to not start drinking the kool-aid. I keep telling myself 8-8 would be great improvement, but 9-7 and 10-6 keep floating around in my head.

I feel that as a rule, a team's record could go 3 games in either direction. You need to be good enough to keep games close and then you need some lucky bounces. If they bounces go your way, you may end up with 3 wins that could have easily been 3 losses. That is the difference between 11-5 and 8-8 or 5-11.

I only have 2 things to say. I love football, and you have a great photographer!
