Haley’s Words Are Crack For This Chiefs Homer

facebooktwitterreddit

I have a confession to make, Addicts.

I am a big Chiefs homer.

There I said it.

In fact, I am a blubbering, this year is our year, sky is the limit, there no telling how far we could go, you never know, it can’t get any worse, I think we could surprise some folks, if x,y,z get better then who knows, I had a dream Scott Pioli and Todd Haley resurrected Derrick Thomas in a creepy, black magic ceremony, do you think it’s a sign, homer.

It is hard to be realistic when you are in love and as sure as Jason Whitlock loves donuts, as sure as Todd Haley loves the word “fuck” and as sure as Randy will probably say something inappropriate to a cheerleader this season, I love the Chiefs.

Well, the big man at Arrowhead loves the Chiefs too and Todd Haley has been doing some talking and I have to tell you, I like what I hear. Todd “Snap The Fucking Ball” Haley gave an interview with WHB in Kansas City with Kevin Kietzman, and the coach actually sounds optimistic about the 2010 season.

Find out what Haley said, without cursing a single time, after the  jump:

On the possible contributions of last years draft class:

"But I will say this: this group from last year, with a year under their belt, you can see the difference in all of them and just the way they’re operating on a daily basis, how they’re working this off-season which is truly their first off-season. So a very difficult question you ask. I’d like to say they equally impact this year both groups, and in a big way. I think that would be good for all of us.”"

I like this. It shows that Pioli and Haley are building the team in their image. Next thing you know, none of them will be shaving, they will all be slightly over weight and they’ll be screaming curse words at an alarming rate.

Seriously, though, this team had to have a foundation before it could build. Last year, Haley did the grunt work, kicking ass and taking names. He had to come in and deal with a bunch of out of shape players who were used to “Club Herm.” “Club Herm” was an NFL fairy tale land where winning didn’t matter, you could eat as many double stuffed Oreos as you liked during the season and if you screwed up you’d receive a pat on the back and a post game sermon about how “we can build on this.”

And I am back. Sorry for the delay there. I was suddenly overcome with an urge to print out a picture of Her Edwards and take a crap on it and along with being a Chiefs homer, I am also not good at resisting urges.

Moving on. More on the guys working out:

"Across the board, these guys have come in in much better condition to work, to begin the work process. Whereas last year, there’s been a lot made of how much weight we lost around here – over 700 pounds. And something I made clear to the guys was that can’t happen. And they clearly listened, they came in in condition…not that you’re in the condition you need to play in March, but they came in condition to work so we could make progress. And that’s what’s happening. The entire group is making progress, getting stronger, getting better. And now adding these young guys that will have a little better group to follow, so to speak, because this group has a year under their belt and they know what we’re asking for. So this young group will have an advantage in that way, in that they’ll have some guys to watch and learn from.”"

This goes hand in hand with what I was talking about above. The foundation (last year’s guys) are there for the pieces brought in to build on (the rookies). Instead of the players having to lose a bunch of weight to get in shape, they can now simply work on getting bigger, stronger and faster for 2010. This should help cut down on injuries and improve performance.

I wish I could get our from behind my desk and get on the “Body By Haley” system. I might finally be able to get rid of this beer gut.

Ah, who the hell am I kidding. Who wold keep you guys informed if I was working out all the time?

And the last word from coach Haley:

"“No doubt it’s an exciting time and it’s an exciting time around the league. Everybody’s put in a lot of hard work into preparing for the draft, then you get to choose some players that you think and hope will have an impact and make you a better team. So there’s great hope around the league. But it was a very productive couple of weeks I believe. I’m really excited about these young guys we’ve brought in to be a part of the Chiefs hopefully, and I think the weekend went well, it was very productive in a lot of different ways for us. I think there’s legitimate excitement for us in the building.”"

Eh? Sounds pretty good. This time last offseason, Haley was talking about how the only good player the Chiefs had on the team was the punter!

Look, Addicts, we may not see miracles this season. We will probably greatly over-estimate the impact the rookies will have, Thomas Jones will begin to show his age and Matt Cassel may turn out to be the 2nd coming of Scott Mitchell.

Or the Chiefs might take advantage of their kick ass coaching staff, brutal offseason conditioning program, sickeningly fast and athletic rookies and shock the world!

Either way, we might as all be excited because there is a lot to be excited about.

Paddy, out!
