From Scout.com:
Scout.com has learned that one of the more intriguing and rising tackles available in this year’s draft, Indiana’s Rodger Saffold, has received interest from many teams. Saffold worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs last week and the Seattle Seahawks yesterday (March 17th), and has a work out scheduled with the Atlanta Falcons next week (TBD) and the Philadelphia Eagles on March 31st. The workouts are conducted at Indiana University.
A four-year starter at Indiana, Saffold played in 42 games, starting 41 of them, and only missed two games during his career. The experience Saffold brings to the NFL makes him an intriguing tackle prospect, but it’s been his performance this offseason that’s raised his draft stock. Saffold was the talk of the scouting world after his showing at the East-West Shrine Game and continued to impress scouts at the Scouting Combine. The 6-foot-5, 316-pound Saffold was considered to be a 3rd – 4th round draft pick a few months ago, but after being tested against the best in the nation and displaying his skills during drills, there’s a strong chance that he’s selected in the first round.

I plucked this guy for the Colts at the bottom of Round 1 in AA’s 6.0 mock.
This guy is a player, definite left tackle potential.
There was tons of buzz surrounding this guy after the combine and for good reason. At this point I think the Chiefs are going to go O-line in the 2nd or 3rd round and one of the guys they may consider taking is this guy. He has the potential to be able to play at 4 of the 5 O-line positions and that versatility can only help him.
Keep an eye on him and Vladimir Ducasse. Chiefs are probably looking to get one of those 2 guys in the 2nd but if Detroit and Washington don’t go O-line in the first, these 2 guys could be off the board at the top of the 2nd.
Your making the case for the Chiefs to draft Baluga or Okung you know.
In the first round, DRAFT TEK has (6) o-lineman taken, Baluga to the Chiefs. If Okung or Balauga is the next Joe Thomas, a PRO BOWL starter from the gitgo, have to take him before any other player. HAVE TO. NO DEBATE. HAVE TO. If you take Saffold at 2a as your article infers, our o-line takes a hugemongous leap. That may be the best mock I’ve seen thus far. Good work.
You know if you liked Pouncy in the bottom third of the first, would you offer DJ and our (2b). Imagine the uproar after you drafted Baluga, Pouncy and Saffold. Imagine the O-LINE!
HAHAHA, with Pioli’s unusual drafting history you need to consider alternate scenarios.
That’s excellent, so we’d be back to the good old days with Coach Vermeil. An excellent O-Line, a really good offense…..and an awful defense. Thats not going to win any championships. We’ve got way too many holes on defense to use the first two (or in dubldug’s “alternate scenario” three and one of our best defensive guys) picks on the O-Line. I know that our O-Line won’t be perfect, but if we spend that much trying to make it perfect, we will have to watch teams set records and watch no names become superstars against our defense for another long year. You want to use the first pick on O-Line fine, its not my first choice but that’s fine, but after that we better use the next two to get some defensive help. I don’t want to watch anymore 41-34 games against the hapless Browns!
A suggestion to ponder; if Magee at DT or DE is stronger and able to play better, Donny Washington and P. Walters having a chance to be in a NFL environment start adding contributions wouldn’t the D need less work? Last year we drafted heavy on D and still sucked big time and you want to repeat that draft? Ideally we trade out but if not we have 4 to 5 players to pick from. A cb.safety,ot,dt,or wr. Justification for any of the above can be made. Pioli gets to decide who is best, who is most talented and who is most needed? Who is the best football player?
