Shaun Rodgers On The Block?

by Chiefs

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Cleveland may be open to trading Shaun Rodgers.

The Cleveland Browns have already traded one defensive lineman this off-season, shipping Corey Williams to the Detroit Lions. Could they trade another?

Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that they could and Shaun Rogers could be gone.

Pluto doesn’t name a source for the report, but writes that the Browns’ coaching staff dislikes Rogers’ tendency to freelance, rather than cover the area he is assigned.

What draft picks would you give in trade for him? I would be willing to give our third round pick for him. Our 2B would be hard to give up, but I would think about it. What do you think? Do you want him? What would you give in trade for him?

We had Rodgers in Detroit and I'll say when he wants towork he can, but he is a lazy player who only wants to be the final piece on a winning team other than that he is all talk and no work! We had good seasons with him and eventually let him go as he is a cancer in the locker room, unless he wants to work. Someone might get lucky and re-motivate him to perform, question is do u waste the money to find out

Would not give up more than a 3rd Rd pick for him either. Think of other players we can also get with a 3rd Rd pick. LB/Kirk Morrison would be a great fit and so would TE/Eric Olsen. Other DT/NT that we could get as UFA that can plug holes but are not as good as Shaun Smith. So with that I would go for Olsen with that pick and add Joey Porter,Antonio Pierce,Pisa Tinoisamoa or Akin Ayodele. draft is also deep with LB's.

I would be seriously disappointed if we traded Dorsey.

Just wondering, I know Rodgers has some issues, but when has Williams ever out produced him on the field? Rodgers is a animal.

WOW.....we're getting deep into all these trades and draft pick swaps and making 500 moves in the next 2 months...Back to the question......
I wouldn't give up anything higher than a 4th round pick..The only reason I would give up a higher pick for someone who is over his prime, is if he's the last piece missing for us to go deep in the playoffs...that's obviously NOT our case, and there's a reason he doesn't last long with teams he goes to..

I would sign LeKevin Smith, from Denver, to play DE, a previous 3-4 DE and Pioli draft pick with the Pats. I would also sign Antonio Bryant, Thomas Jones, and Ryan Clark, Trade Dorsey to Detroit for a 2nd this year or 1st next year(we all know how the Pats or Pioli like to stock up picks). I would swap 1st picks for Rogers and hope Claussen is there, if they don't take it sign Jamal Williams immediadely. Then let's all hope that Claussen is available at 5 and trade down to 9 with Buffalo and pick up an additional 3(don't really care about the value chart). With pick 9 I take ILB McClain because Al Davis takes Dez Bryant right in front of us. With pick 2a (34 from Detroit for Dorsey) take OG/C Maurkice Pouncey, 2b(36 our pick) take ILB Brandon Spikes, and with 2c (50 from Atlanta for TG) OG Vladimir Ducasse. In round 3 I trade DJ to Detroit for a 3. Then take 3a (66 from Detroit for DJ) and trade it to Chicago for Greg Olsen, 3b (69 our pick) pick OG Jon Asamoah, and 3c (73 from Buffalo for moving down) take SS Larry Asante. Round 4 (103) CB Javier Arenas. Round 5a (138 our pick) WR Riley Cooper, 5b (144 from Miami for Thigpen) OT Sam Young, and 5c (146 from Carolina for Tyler) NT Torrell Troup. That leaves a depth chart of:
OFFENSE
QBs Cassel, Croyle, Guitterez
WRs Bryant, Bowe, Chambers, Cooper, Copper
TEs Olsen, Pope, Cottam
LTs Albert, Smith, Young
LGs Waters, Ducasse
Cs.Pauncey, Niswanger
RGs Smith, Asamoah
RTs O'Callaghan, Richardson, Young
DEFENSE
LE Jackson, Gilberry, Mcgee
NT Rogers, Troup
RE Smith, Magee
ROLB Hali, Studebaker
ILB McClain, Williams
ILB Spikes, Mays
LOLB Vrabel
CB Flowers, Carr, Washington
CB Arenas, Carr, Washington
NB Carr, Washington
SS Clark, Asante
FS Page, Morgan, McGraw

I'll tackle it. Jamal Williams is better, Rodger is younger and Dan Williams is the best NT in the draft.

Well who's better in everyone's opinion? Williams or Rodgers? And who is the best NT in the draft?

I know we need a NT, so the more options we have, the better. Just seems like the Browns are in pretty much the same boat we are in. Why are they giving up on this monster? Romeo is the only guy that can motivate this guy?

102:

Sure you would. If you add some vet free agents and a draft to a 4 win team, you better have improved. That's not the question. The question is, what is the best improvement you can make for this year and going forward? As good as Suh is, trading up for him doesn't seem wise. We are better off sliding down a couple of spots, picking up an additional pick and still grabing McClain.

Come on now, we would have a much better team....
LDE Jackson, McGee
NT Rodgers, Troup
RDE Suh, McGee
LOLB Hughes
LILB D. Williams
RILB Chaney
ROLB Hali
CB Flowers
CB Franks
nickel Carr
SS Paige
FS Clark

QB Cassel, Croyle. Fordham
RB Charles, T. Jones
FB Cox, ?
WR Bowe
WR Chambers
WR Alexander
TE Pope, Cottam
LT Penn
LG Alberts
C Waters
RG Walton, FA
RT O,Callahan

102:

I have to hand it to you. You have the most creative draft scenarios. I can see trading a 4th and a 5th for Rodgers. I would not want to trade up from #5 though.

This is a crazy attempt, but what do you think? Trade DJ and D. Morgan to Detriot, we switch first with them and pick up their 5th. (They get a 4-3 former 1st round LB and they can still get the second best OT or Eric Berry. Trade Dorsey and our third to Tampa for LT Donald Penn and their 2a. Now Tampa drafts LT Okung and they get a third year 4-3 d lineman. Send our 4th and worst fifth to Cleveland for Rodgers. Sign T. Jones, Ben Watson, S Ryan Clark.
Trad our #50 to Philly we get #70 & #87

R1 #2 DE N. Suh-Nebraska
R2 #35 CB Dominique Franks-Oklahoma
R2 #36 LB Jerry Hughes-TCU
R3 #70 C J.D. Walton-Baylor
R3 #87 NT Torrell Troup-UCF
R5 #129 LB Jamar Chaney-Miss St.
R5 #132 WR Danario Alexandr-Missouri
R5 #138 QB John Skelton-Fordham

I'm not a fan of giving away draft picks but the most I could give for Rogers is a 4th. Even then, I would want some new footballs to come with him as part of the deal.

Rodgers played really well for Crennel. If his health checks out and the chiefs think he can plug the gap for us for a couple of years I would be ok for it.

dubldug:

If Romeo signs off on it, I would give up our third for him. I would still look at Jamaal Williams, well, because I am greedy and you need two good NT's. Then, we can focus on other areas in the draft. I don't see a Dorsey trade though.

Hey Merlin you brought it up, what do you think?

3rd round is most I would give up to. This is Shaun Rogers we would be getting for practice:

But he is a gameday player.

"We talking about practice?"

Kray:

I hear you on the importance of the NT need and am with you on that and the importance of the center position. We need to fill both those positions to compete. There are a couple of Nt's that may be available. If I were Pioli, I would be on the phone to the Browns and to Jamaal Williams' agent. I would also be calling Mawae if the Chiefs think he can fit well in a ZBS. How does Mawae to mentor a high draft pick at center float your boat?

I think we need ILB more than NT. Watching the ILB's fill the wrong hole, being out of position to make tackles was pathetic to watch. We need more for Dorsey than a 2. Maybe a 2 this year and next years 1. If you really want Rogers, ask for their restricted LB and Rogers for our 5.

Thanks Merlin. I don't know personally know enough about the guy to make a call here. So lets go hypothetical shall we?

IF...IF ...IF this guy is good and could give us a breather at the NT position then ok. If...IF...IF he is sufficient as a filler while we train someone like Cody or anyone else with promise at NT position, then hell yes. I would give up a 3rd in 3 secs flat. And I would give up a second. We have NO other need as pressing as NT.

Second, I would like to see a center from hell. Those two things alone would completely change our team. Completely. It would be an instant improvement IMO. I don't mean to say we would be winning playoff games, but I think we would see some noticeable improvement immediatley. We would be on the right track anyway.

What do you think guys?

Then Who plays the other end

Yes Romeo traded Detroit for him. I say a third is reasonable. He is a beast in the middle. Also there is rumors of Detroit wanting Dorsey, so if we can pick up an extra 2nd or third for him then we'll be in good shape.

Was Romeo The one that origionally signed him? Jw

Who cares? We need help at the nose, but this guy has been questionable on every team he plays for and now the team he plays for wants to get rid of him? No thanks.

McDaniels would have traded his whole team for Cassel and we got him for a second round pick with Vrabel thrown in. I think KC could get a 30 year old NT who's coaches want him gone and who wants to leave the team anyways for a reasonable price. Maybe a couple of fourths and a fifth could land him. I would probably give a third to address a major need. We'd still need a safety, linebacker, receiver, tightend, and an Olineman or two but it would be a big step in the right direction.

Id give up a 3 but Would understand a 2b i mean it seems everybody likes cody at 2a so get Rogers at 2b same player for later pick
