Arrowhead Addict Continues To Fuel Absurd Clausen To KC Rumor

Andrew Crocker, Co Lead Blogger of the normally brilliant and informative Kansas City Chiefs Blog Arrowhead Addict, along with ESPN, continues to perpetuate the absurd idea that the Chiefs will dump Matt Cassel and draft former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen.

Crocker defends his stance by suggesting that by releasing Mike Goff, Chiefs GM Scott Pioli is trying to rectify some of the mistakes he made last season. Crocker implies, via  pictures, that he thinks there is a good chance Pioli is about to jettison Cassel to draft Clausen.

The rumor has been running rampant for some time. The essential idea behind the madness, is that Pioli, whose first move as the Chiefs GM was to trade a 2009 2nd round draft pick for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel, is going to try to draft Clausen if available and then trade Matt Cassel and his large contract, possibly to division rival Denver. The Chiefs would then continue on with Clausen as their franchise QB, the idea being that offensive coordinator Charlie Weis can make Clausen into the next Peyton Manning.

It continues to baffle Chiefs fans why ESPN and Crocker think that Pioli would trade a man he thought a season ago could be his franchise QB, to a division rival only 16 games later. It seems not to phase Crocker or ESPN that division rivals rarely trade with one another. More specificaly, it would be considered folly by most in the NFL, to trade a guy to a rival that you have to play twice a year when your rival thinks the guy can be their franchise QB for the next 10 years.

Pioli’s affection for Cassel seems to stem from their time in New England. When Tom Brady went down with a knee injury in the opening moments of the first game of the 2008 season, ironically against the Chiefs, Cassel stepped in and lead the team to a victory. He would do the same thing 10 more times that season as a starter. After Cassel was traded, Brady returned in 2009 and lead the Patriots to only 10 wins, with essentially the same cast of characters that Cassel played with.

Pioli seems to believe that while Cassel struggled in his first season with the Chiefs, that the young QB has already proven he can succeed on a properly equipped team. Most NFL types seem to agree that Pioli’s next move is to continue to surround Cassel with more talented players so that the QB may grow with the team.

Crocker and ESPN, however, never seem to mention these facts as they continue to spread fantasy.

One voice of reason seems to be Arrowhead Addict Co-Lead Blogger, Patrick Allen. Allen has gone on the record that he vehemently disagrees with both Crocker and ESPN. To further his commitment to the light side of the force, Allen has promised that if the Chiefs draft Clausen, he will eat 50 hot dogs from Nathans on Coney Island. Allen claims that as soon as he finished the hot dogs, he will ride the famous roller coaster the Cyclone, which will likely cause him to vomit all over himself. Allen promises to film the entire episode and to post it on AA.

YOU'VE WON THIS BATTLE, PADDY.

But you haven't won the war.

The Chiefs are not going to draft Clausen but I like the rumor. It can only help us if we are looking to trade down in the first round. Can someone start one that the Chiefs and Denver are discussing a Cassel deal?

I don't know about this Clausen to KC thing. And Cassel to Denver, yeah, like that wouldn't come back to bite us in the butts. From what I read on Cassel, and I read a lot, is that his work ethic is tremendous. That one intangible is a huge at that position. He came right into a fresh situation in NE and stepped up and played beyond well. He threw for 400+ yds in consecutive games at one point that year. And one could easily argue that the Pats do as well, or worse with Brady starting that year, being as that the Pats had been coming off a Super Bowl loss, you never know. He needs talent, and protection. He played a great 1st half of the season, but he started getting a lot of tipped passes intercepted and his TD/INT ratio went up quick. This convo wouldn't be happening if Clausen played for another school, it just wouldn't. I think Tony Pike is a much better QB and possibly the best in this class. He could fall to our 3rd round pick and I doubt anyone would complain if we took him. GO CHIEFS!!!

Hey, I'd be fine with drafting Clausen IF we were able to squeeze a 1st and 4th out of the Donkeys or something of that nature.

Ahhh arm chair GM's what would the world be without us.
We shall see.

good ole timc. lol.

Plenty of smutside!

My ass! Ive seen cheer leaders throw a better ball than Cassel. I said right from the start that he was a one hit wonder. He lucked into a great situation, made the best of it by the skin of his teeth and convinced the whole world that he was actually good.

The same QB who had never started a game up to that point. The same QB who at 27 still struggles with the basics. He has no instincts and has terrible pocket awareness. (sack stats as my main evidence)

He's a deceitful, evil man, who is just after the chiefs money. He's going to run this team into the ground and laugh all the way to the bank.

"Cassel stepped in and lead the team to a victory. He would do the same thing 10 ore times that season as a starter. After Cassel was traded, Brady returned in 2009 and lead the Patriots to only 10 wins, with essentially the same cast of characters that Cassel played with."

Get some players around him and the kid can play. I know others have claimed he isn't good enough but considering he started the season with an injury and a new offense I feel he showed PLENTY of upside.

You guys REALLY crack me up! AA doesnt lose sight of the fact that football is supposed to be fun. I would HATE HATE HATE to see Cassel go, I think he is the QB of our future. Not long ago we didnt know which idiot was going to take the snaps game to game. That being said we do have to protect him and I do think he is going to have to up his performance level or we will send him packing. Im confident he will develop.

It really doesnt matter who the QuarterBack is if you cant protect Him.Cassel will do fine if he can get some help, and the recievers can Hold on to the Ball.

I remember Cassell winning that game as our highly touted receiver dropped a pass in the end zone which would of won the game for the Chiefs. From what I hear Santa Clausen isn't even being considered by the Redskins, whose coach is supposedly a QB guru. Rick Mirer was most likely Crock's idol, and Clausen reminds him so much of him he just cannot quit gushing about his talents. Which to hear tell are only as good as the coach he had. It makes me wonder if it was coaching and not talent?

no hotdogs for him cause cassel has already been drafted!
