The Kansas City Chiefs were expecting big things from second-year wide receiver Xavier Worthy in their Week 1 opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately, the former first-round pick out of Texas was injured on the first offensive series of the game when Travis Kelce collided with Worthy, forcing him to exit and miss the rest of the game.
Worthy's absence would have been a big enough blow on its own but considering Rashee Rice is out for five more games and we don't know the status on Jalen Royals and when he'll be back, that takes three wide receivers out of the equation for Kansas City. This leaves them with Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton as the main threats.
Andy Reid spoke to the media on Monday ahead of Kansas City's Week 2 match-up against the Philadelphia Eagles and was asked about a Worthy update. Chiefs fans were holding their breath while Reid answered this question and while we didn't get a surefire answer as to when Worthy will return, the response certainly could have been worse.
Reid said that Worthy is day-to-day and noted that rehabbing and playing with a brace is the plan for the second-year wideout. As Ian Rapoport reported, this is "good news" and far better than what Chiefs fans were expecting. It doesn't sound like Worthy is going to miss the rest of the season, which was definitely something Chiefs Kingdom was afraid of.
#Chiefs coach Andy Reid describes Xavier Worthy as "day-to-day" talking to reporters, an indication that the plan is to rehab and attempt to play with a brace -- rather than immediate surgery. Some good news initially. https://t.co/uTIwQEeZf1

Andy Reid provides Xavier Worthy that Chiefs fans need to hear
The Chiefs have had a tough go of it with their wide receivers already this season with Rice, Royals, and Worthy all now likely missing Week 2. Brown, Smith-Schuster, and Thornton along with Travis Kelce will all need to step out and help Patrick Mahomes out because the Chiefs face the Eagles this week and a loss puts them at 0-2 to start the year. That is not a hole this team wants to be in when redemption is on the line.
Hopefully, Worthy can recover and help this offense out because he was definitely missed in that Week 1 loss to L.A. Chiefs fans long to see him on the field with Rice and the hope is that by Week 7 when Rice returns that Worthy is back and the two can finally play together for the first time since Week 4 of last year.
