We're not exactly sure what happened behind the scenes. Perhaps we missed a story in the business of the holiday season, or maybe it's a narrative that will come out sometime after the game on Saturday.
Whatever went on between Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy, if anything, we're pretty sure a wager was involved.
We're also pretty sure that Mahomes won.
Yes, that's Xavier Worthy, a product of the University of Texas, coming into Arrowhead for Week 16 of the NFL's regular season—and a primetime showing on NBC on a special Saturday afternoon edition of a game—in a Texas Tech jersey.
Apparently he wasn't at least forced to sing a school's fight song or say "Go Red Raiders!" or anything like that.
To make matters worse for Worthy, however is the fact that his alma mater is scheduled to host the Clemson Tigers this afternoon. Instead of being able to wish them well and remind everyone about his own school pride, he's forced to walk into his own game in rival colors.
Worthy followed up online by giving his side of the story shortly before the game.
The Longhorns kick off their part of the College Football Playoff at 3:00 p.m. Arrowhead Time—just three hours after the Chiefs will take the field against the Houston Texans to hopefully secure another victory and one step more toward a first-round bye.
