When was the last time the Chiefs played a regular-season game on a Friday?
The Kansas City Chiefs will play a rare Friday game in Week 13, hosting the Las Vegas Raiders for a special Black Friday edition of the NFL. It'll be weird to have the Chiefs suiting up and taking center stage for a Friday game and it might have some fans wondering when the last time their favorite team played on a Friday.
As we know, the NFL typically doesn't have any games on Friday. This is because the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 has mostly forbidden the NFL from hosting games on Fridays but there are exceptions.
One of the biggest exceptions came when the Chiefs last played on a Friday night. In 2005, the Chiefs were scheduled to play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, October 23rd but the game had to be moved to Friday, October 21st due to Hurricane Wilma.
You have to go all the way back to 2005 for the Chiefs' last Friday game
Younger Chiefs fans obviously won't remember that game, but for those of us who do remember, it was a strange feeling. We came home from school, ate dinner, and then kicked back to watch the Chiefs take the field on a Friday night.
The Chiefs went on to win that game by a final score of 30 to 20 and moved to 4-2 on the year while the Dolphins dropped to 2-4. Chiefs quarterback Trent Green completed 20-of-34 passes for 289 yards while Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes carved up the Dolphins' defense. Johnson rushed for 93 yards and a score while Holmes rushed for 90 yards and found the end zone twice. Tony Gonzalez led the team in receiving yards with 67 to his name.
The Dolphins had three different players throw passes for them in the 10-point loss with Gus Frerotte completing 11-of-29 pass attempts for 125 yards and a pick. Sage Rosenfels and Marty Booker also threw passes with Rosenfels throwing the only touchdown pass of the three. The Dolphins run game rushed for 94 yards with Ronnie Brown getting 95 yards and a touchdown while Ricky Williams rushed for negative one yard.
So, there you have it, Chiefs fans. The last time the Chiefs played a game on a Friday night wasn't on a holiday but rather because a hurricane forced the league to move the game up from Sunday to Friday. Now you can win a trivia contest with your family and friends.
