From the moment that he became available following the Miami Dolphins' decision to fire him as their head coach, Mike McDaniel has been the NFL's hottest commodity. The league's coaching carousel is in spinning at capacity following the close of Week 18 and the swift axings that comprised Black Monday. But few moves have made waves like the one made by Miami owner Stephen Ross.
What followed McDaniel's ouster was a groundswell of support from every fan base with an opening of any kind at the head coach or coordinator level. It didn't take long before franchises were officially reaching out to the former Dolphins head coach in the hopes that he might join their organization, whether that meant taking a demotion to become an OC once again or to make a lateral move.
The Cleveland Browns reached out to McDaniel to interview for a head coach opening created by the firing of Kevin Stefanski. The Detroit Lions have asked McDaniel to consider being Jared Goff's new offensive coordinator. And Kansas City Chiefs fans have been clamoring for McDaniel even before he became available, with the hopes that maybe the Dolphins would want to move on and he might be able to replace Matt Nagy.
Tyreek Hill pushed back on the idea that Mike McDaniel would be a natural fit in Kansas City.
It's not just the fans who are into the idea in Chiefs Kingdom. Former Chiefs tackle Mitchell Schwartz feels the same, and posted the following on social media shortly after the news broke of McDaniel's firing.

Despite the cheering on of such an idea, a very familiar face for Chiefs Kingdom threw some cold water on the idea of McDaniel serving on Andy Reid's staff in 2026. In response to a list of preferred offensive coordinator ideas for the Chiefs next year, former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill posted the following:
Mike don’t fit yall scheme buddy sorry to tell ya

Few persons would have more intimate knowledge of both what the Chiefs would need and what McDaniel would bring than Hill, who has been with the Dolphins ever since K.C. traded him there after the 2021 season. The Dolphins traded five draft choices to the Chiefs for Hill in the hopes of giving McDaniel as many weapons as possible to start his career. Four years later, Hill is commenting on McDaniel's firing (and could actually join him on the open market as a likely cap casualty for Miami).
Hill doesn't believe that McDaniel is a fit for the Chiefs. Maybe so, but a fresh voice with new ideas is exactly what the Chiefs offense needs after struggling to develop receivers and generate a positive ground game in a 6-11 season. Matt Nagy has been the Chiefs' offensive coordinator for the last three seasons, and is now interviewing for several head coaching jobs in the same competitive market as McDaniel.
The truth is that McDaniel is likely going to have head coaching offers, so maybe Hill is right to at least say that a marriage with Andy Reid isn't likely. Or maybe he's right that McDaniel just isn't the fit that people want to believe he would be. Either way, it's interesting to have someone counter the excitement of potentially bringing McDaniel on board the Chiefs' coaching staff.
