The Kansas City Chiefs have been slowly getting the band back together over the last few seasons. While Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid have been the stalwarts of this dynasty, pieces have broken off over the years, only to return later.
Kareem Hunt rejoined the squad last season, Mike Pennel entered the fold once again at the halfway point of the 2025 campaign, Mecole Hardman bounces in and out, and Eric Bienemy is now back as the offensive coordinator. The more things change, the more they stay the same in Kansas City.
But an eventual reunion with Tyreek Hill has always been in the back of the minds of Chiefs fans as well, even if just for nostalgia's sake. With more offensive firepower needed in Kansas City, and Hill's coach being fired in Miami, his return to the AFC West felt imminent.
This wasn't what Chiefs fans had in mind, though.
Tyreek Hill may have just hinted at joining Mike McDaniel and Chargers
Mike McDaniel, Hill's coach for the Dolphins, is looking like he'll be the next offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City's bitter divisional rival. Well, Hill seemingly took things a step further with a cryptic post on social media on Wednesday morning after seeing the news.

Now, Hill likes to... let's just say "have a little fun" on social media. But Hill also knows that change is coming in Miami, and he is an obvious cut candidate for them as the Dolphins look to turn the page and start a new chapter under Jeff Hafley and Jon-Eric Sullivan.

This almost feels like a message to McDaniel and the Chargers, hinting that he'd like to join the fray in Los Angeles if he is indeed cut. While it may be weird for Chiefs fans to see Hill working with Jim Harbaugh and Co., it's a lot less intimidating than it was a few years ago.
Hill still has to recover from a nasty injury that he suffered early in the 2025 season, and his production has fallen off a cliff since his unbelievable 2023 campaign. Plus, Los Angeles has a crowded wide receiver room, and there's no guarantee that they'd even want him.
Yes, Hill and McDaniel clearly have a strong relationship, and it seems like the former is at least interested in following his former coach. Yes, it would be bizarre seeing Hill in Chargers colors. But it wouldn't be the end of the world, unless Hill sips from the fountain of youth this offseason.
A return to Kansas City would be triumphant in a lot of ways, but moreso emotionally than in terms of his football impact. Hill's return to another AFC West opponent would just be plain weird, and, hopefully, a failed venture.
