Tyreek Hill is currently not signed by any team, but that likely won't remain the case for the entirety of the 2026 season. While Hill is still recovering from a nasty injury he suffered early in the 2025 season, Kansas City continues to emerge as an obvious potential destination whenever he's healthy enough to return.
Hill himself hasn't been shy about vocalizing his desire to return to the team that drafted him a decade ago. His posts have ranged from propping up his former team to even posting pictures of him with the Chiefs from the glory days with the caption, "Soon my dear friend."
A reunion makes sense. After all, Hill played for the team for six years, and it's not like the Chiefs are swimming in talent at the wide receiver position. Tyquan Thornton currently looks like their best receiver, and Hill could give them another legitimate option at the position.
That being said, we shouldn't expect Hill to be the same guy he was before he was traded. He's returning from an absolutely brutal injury and, as the videos showed this summer, he's still recovering from it. Returning from that injury would be tough for anyone, but doing so at 32 years old, with the wear and tear Hill already has on his body, makes it even more difficult.
Tyreek Hill-Chiefs reunion gets another vote of confidence
Albert Breer was the latest insider to back up the "Tyreek Hill reuniting with the Chiefs" discussion. Breer was asked for the latest updates on Hill during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show and said that the Chiefs were an obvious choice as "a potential suitor."
"I wonder how closely he's been watching his old team... How closely he's been watching the Chiefs and how much of a pull there might be for him to go back there and finish his career there. Now, you saw the video just like I did over the summer. It still looked like he had a ways to go," said Breer.
"This is a very, very serious injury, so I don't want to talk in absolutes here, as if, like, 'Yeah, he's definitely coming back, and he's definitely going to bring X, Y, and Z to the table.' But I can tell you like he does want to play. And I think they're going to be smart about this. Just about when his entry point is and where he goes. And I think, you know, we all have the Chiefs circled as a potential suitor," he continued
Tyreek could still fit a need for KC
Hill was traded from the Chiefs in 2022 in what was considered a highly controversial decision at the time. As we know now, the Chiefs were able to use the draft capital they received in the trade to help replenish a roster that went on to win two more Super Bowl titles. The wide receiver position suffered as a result, though, and Brett Veach has struggled to completely fill the void once left by Hill.
It's going to take some time for Hill to be able to return to the field, but when that time does come, the Chiefs feel like one of the most obvious landing spots for the Cheetah. He might not be what he once was, and Kansas City shouldn't expect him to be. But the Chiefs need help at the position, and if Hill can get healthy, he could provide a potential spark later in the season.
