It's no secret ... the NFL has been put on alert.

Kansas City Chiefs fans had been waiting for a while to hear the news on tight end Travis Kelce. After a subpar season in which Kelce and the Chiefs missed the playoffs in abnormal fashion, questions emerged as to whether or not 2025 might have been the last we saw of the franchise legend.

With plenty ahead of him off the field, Kelce very well could have called it a career. At this point, what more does he have to accomplish? The future first-ballot Hall of Fame tight end could arguably go down as the greatest to ever do it, but that's not how this story ends ... yet.

Right after the legal tampering period began and just before the real start to NFL free agency 48 hours from then, Chiefs fans heard the Kelce news they had been waiting for. He would, indeed, return for a 14th NFL season.

But, what had yet to surface were the terms of his new deal.

Alas, we have them.

Kelce is getting $12 million in 2026 with potential to make up to $15 million, per Ian Rapoport.

Travis Kelce's new contract falls right in line with a 2026 Chiefs season that's coming with a vengeance

After already signing the prized free agent running back of this year's class in Kenneth Walker III, the Chiefs made Kelce's details public and assured the Kingdom that they were back.

It doesn't take an insider or expert to figure out what the Chiefs' game plan is, here, folks.

While some fans may be panicking over the Chiefs' losses in their secondary, Brett Veach is making the splash moves on offense to help load up for when Patrick Mahomes is back and healthy.

Real quickly, as for the defense ... the offseason is far from over. Let's not panic just yet. Kansas City has ample draft capital to work with. They've got a pair of first-round picks at their disposal, which is a scary reality for the rest of the NFL. The defense is going to come together. Just you wait.

Now, back to the even scarier notion.

Mahomes is coming back. For the rest of the league, last season was an "Enjoy it while it lasts" type of thing.

Every Chiefs fan knows this to be true.

And now, Mahomes is going to have his longtime top target back in the fold. That contract, for Kelce, means he is going to get fed plenty of targets. Sure, because of his name, he is worth top dollar. But, the Chiefs aren't in a position to just throw a bunch of money at him only not to utilize him within the offense.

If I had to bet, Kelce makes this year one of his best yet. He, Mahomes and the rest of that locker room from last year are all well aware of the "end of a dynasty" chatter. But, in reality, it was just a down year -- and it was coming.

Chiefs fans knew it was coming. This organization continued to ignore some key problems, and they caught up. But, that's a story for another time.

Right now, it's all about Kelce, Mahomes and that shiny new running back. Between bringing Kelce back and agreeing to sign Walker, the Chiefs' offense could be back and better than ever.

Now, it's time to go figure out that wide receiver room (among the lingering defensive questions). Hopefully, for the sake of Chiefs Kingdom, Veach's plan comes to fruition and everybody forgets about the outlier that was 2025.
