The Kansas City Chiefs made changes to their offensive coaching staff this spring, kicking Matt Nagy to the curb and reuniting with Eric Bieniemy. The former Chiefs offensive coordinator returned to reclaim his old job and hopefully turn things around offensively for this team.
Travis Kelce was psyched about Bieniemy's return and what he's already bringing to the team, speaking about it on the newest episode of the New Heights podcast.
“It’s a breath of f***ing fresh air, man,” Kelce said. “I just love it, man. This has nothing to do with who was on the staff last year. It’s just what Bieniemy brings to the table and how he goes about it, man. And he’s holding everybody accountable, me included.”

First, it's awesome to see Kelce so amped up about this. This could very well be Kelce's swan song, so, naturally, he's going to be excited to potentially have one last successful season before he hangs up the cleats.
Secondly, it was wise of him to clarify that none of this was intended as a shot at the coaches on the staff a year ago. Some people might have heard this quote come out of Kelce's mouth and tried to stretch it that way so good for him for quickly clarifying.
But wait, there's more!
“He’s gotten on my ass a few times, got me going on days that I needed it, and I love him for it,” Kelce continued. “If you take the right mentality with a coach like this, knowing that his intentions are to make this team the greatest team he could possibly make it. As long as you know where his intentions are and you don’t take things the wrong way, or when you’re feeling s***ty, you don’t let those negative emotions get to you and you take coaching the right way, you could see some of this kind of culture change back into what it was.”
This is the absolute best message that fans could be hearing about Bieniemy ahead of the regular season. The offense's dropoff after he left was painfully obvious and the hope is that now that he's back, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs offense will be back to firing on all cylinders.
Bieniemy originally was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018 and held the position until 2022 when he and the Chiefs mutually parted ways. He bounced around after that, spending 2023 as the Commanders' OC, 2024 as UCLA's OC and assistant head coach, and 2025 as the Bears' running backs coach. Now he's back where he belongs and Kelce couldn't be happier.
