The Chiefs could repeat a hilarous feat in an arch rival's own stadium

The Super Bowl’s return to Las Vegas gives the Chiefs a chance to repeat one of their most embarrassing flexes over the Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to do something incredibly funny.

The NFL announced this week that the Super Bowl will be returning to the site of one of Kansas City’s previous championship triumphs, giving the Chiefs the opportunity to double down on an embarrassing achievement they hold over a hated division rival.

The Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers two years ago, with Patrick Mahomes throwing a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman in overtime to win back-to-back Super Bowls for KC.

The site for that game was Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, and the victory meant that the Chiefs had just won a Super Bowl in their archrival’s stadium before the Raiders had even won a playoff game there.

The Super Bowl’s return to Las Vegas gives the Chiefs a chance to repeat one of their most embarrassing flexes over the Raiders.

After the game, there were videos of Chiefs players, coaches, staff, and family members celebrating in the Raiders' own locker room, with the Lombardi Trophy in hand.

Now, the Chiefs will have a chance to do it again.

The league confirmed that Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium will host Super Bowl LXIII in 2029, giving Kansas City the very real opportunity to lift a second Lombardi Trophy there before the Raiders win a playoff game there.

That would be hilarious. It’s funny enough that it happened once, but if it were to happen again, oh my. The Raiders would have to knock Allegiant Stadium down and build a whole new stadium at that point.

It’s something that could genuinely happen too.

Kansas City’s Super Bowl window will always be open as long as they have Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback, and despite the Chiefs missing the playoffs last season, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect KC to be in the playoffs competing for a championship again in 2029.

As for the Raiders, they are in the depths of a massive rebuild that may not be complete any time soon. Las Vegas will turn to a rookie quarterback, likely to be Fernando Mendoza, and rookie head coach Klint Kubiak as the team tries to win its first playoff game since 2003.

Even with a highly-rated head coach in Kubiak and the top quarterback in this year’s draft class in Mendoza, plus key pieces like Ashton Jeanty, Brock Bowers and new center Tyler Linderbaum, there is no guarantee that the Raiders’ rebuild will be quick or even successful.

The Raiders won just three games last year. Are they really going to be able to improve and return to the playoffs in three seasons? Will they be able to improve so much that they then get host and actually win a playoff game at their home stadium, in a division that includes the Chiefs and ascending Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos teams, too? I don’t think so.

The way I see it, the Chiefs have a better chance to win Super Bowl LXIII in 2029 than the Raiders do of winning a playoff game before then. And if that were to happen, it would give Kansas City another all-time boast over its AFC West rival.

It would be hilarious.
