Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce have a recurring question for most guests on their popular podcast New Heights, given the football-centric nature of their sphere. But they chose to apply the same standards to their latest guest, even though it just happened to be the world's most popular pop star, Taylor Swift.
On the latest episode, Swift talked with the Kelce brothers about her forthcoming LP, The Life of a Showgirl, and a number of other topics. Near the end of the episode, Jason Kelce asked Swift to describe her "welcome to the NFL" moment. Taylor pointed to a memorable moment for all of Chiefs Kingdom.
"I’d say it was the first time I stepped on the field, which would have been when you won the AFC Championship the first season that I was with you. It was in Baltimore. We were in the suite and just won the AFC Championship."
Taylor Swift described her "welcome to the NFL" moment in a recent interview on Travis Kelce's New Heights podcast.
Swift goes on to describe a confusing exchange with Kelce's mother, Donna, who told her what was possible for those close to players participating.
"We’re freaking out. Everybody’s screaming, and his mom goes, ‘All right, let’s go down to the field.’ I was like, ‘What? Where’d you…? What do you mean?’ She said, ‘We’re going down to the field.’ And I was like, ‘Did he say that that’s okay?’ Because we hadn’t talked about this."
"Yeah, I didn’t want to jinx it," said Travis. "Yeah, he doesn’t jinx anything, which I respect, actually. I’m all about that." continued Swift. "But we hadn’t had a conversation about it, so is he going to be, ‘What are you doing down here, dude?’"
After realizing that Donna Kelce had been there more than once, Swift said she trusted her enough to follow along.
"She was like, ‘Trust me, he wants you there.’ I was like, ‘Okay, well, she would know.’ And so I’m walking out onto this field, and it’s like, ‘Oh, my god! Oh, my god!’ I was like, ‘I’ve never seen this much media in my life, and I’ve seen a lot of media.'"
Overall, Swift says such a thrilling moment ultimately wasn't about the cameras or the newness of the on-field experience. Instead, the power of the moment was tied to what it meant for Travis.
"It’s one of my most cherished memories because I was so proud of you. It was so magical. It was so fun. It’s crazy to get to see someone you love work that hard and then have that euphoric payoff. It’s like, ‘You did it! You did it underlined 100 times!'"
