Stefon Diggs might have just handed Chiefs the perfect reason to act

Should the Chiefs strike?

To say that people aren't impressed with the Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver corps would be an understatement. Despite last season’s struggles at the position, Brett Veach made minimal additions this offseason, waiting until the fifth round to draft a wide receiver and only re-signing Tyquan Thornton.

That clearly shows that Veach and the Chiefs brass are confident in the group they have. But, what if they didn't have to be? Stefon Diggs is still available to sign and the comments he's made recently are hard for Chiefs fans to deny.

"You can't name a No. 2 [receiver] better than me," Diggs said on his YouTube channel.

While there are certainly WR2s better than Diggs on other rosters, the Chiefs might not have that same argument. Diggs finished last season with over 1,000 yards receiving and four touchdowns in his one-and-done year with the Patriots while Chiefs WR2 Xavier Worthy had just 532 yards and one touchdown. Hard to argue with Diggs there.

Stefon Diggs just gave Chiefs a reason they can’t ignore anymore

Again, the Chiefs didn't do much to address their wide receiver woes this offseason, indicating they feel 2025 was a fluke and the talent is there. Rashee Rice, Worthy, and Thornton will be tasked as the starters but that group really doesn't instill fear into anyone. Diggs might be nearing the end of his career but he proved last year that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

There are certainly downsides to signing Diggs, however. One is that he's had his fair share of drama off the field and the Chiefs already have Rice on their roster, who also can't stay out of trouble. Another is that Diggs is prone to theatrics on the field and tends to whine and complain when things don't go his way.

Even with that in mind, Diggs' latest message is hard for the Chiefs to ignore. He's a better option at WR2 than what the team has now and he could give Patrick Mahomes a lethal weapon to throw to.

Are the risks worth it though?
