Kansas City Chiefs fans might not have been the most excited about the selection of Oklahoma edge rusher R Mason Thomas in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. While Thomas is obviously talented with a well-known reputation for getting after opposing quarterbacks, he doesn't necessarily fit what this Chiefs defense typically looks for in a pass rusher.

Be that as it may, Thomas is now a member of the Chiefs' defense, whether fans like it or not. While he's yet to play a snap as a member of his new team, Dekota Gregory of Stormin' In Norman, FanSided's site dedicated to Oklahoma Sooners coverage, gave quite the statement about Thomas.

"R Mason Thomas gets to the quarterback. Plain and simple. He's also as clutch as they come while earning the nickname, "The Closer." There's not much more a team could want from an edge rusher, so as Thomas' draft stock has recently dipped, he'll be an absolute steal if he falls beyond the first round."

Oklahoma Sooners expert hypes up R Mason Thomas in massive way

This should excite Chiefs fans. The team needs help getting after the quarterback, and, per Gregory, Thomas does just that. The nickname of "The Closer" is hopefully something that can follow him to Kansas City as he begins his pro career a,nd it'd also be great if this pick ended up looking like the steal that Gregory said it would be.

The Chiefs pass rush has fallen off in recent years, but hopefully, the additions of Thomas and Clemson tackle Peter Woods, who was taken at No. 29 in the first round, will help get the unit back on track. If an Oklahoma fan, especially one who has watched a lot of Thomas, is talking about him like this, then Chiefs fans should be excited about what the Sooners pass rusher can bring with him to Kansas City.
