Ronnie Stanley left an absurd amount of money on the table by signing with Ravens

He must have really wanted to stay in Baltimore.

The Kansas City Chiefs made their plans at left tackle known this offseason. They wanted Ronnie Stanley to play the position but that plan was foiled when Stanley opted to remain in Baltimore on a three-year deal worth $60 million.

Stanley is set to make $44 million guaranteed but could have had a lot more money had he signed with one of the many teams that were reportedly interested in him. According to Albert Breer, the Chiefs, Commanders, and Patriots all offered Stanley at least $20 million per year.

In particular, the Commanders and Patriots offered Stanley more dough than what he ended up signing for in Baltimore. Washington and New England reportedly offered him an annual salary of at least $24 million while the Chiefs offered an annual salary of roughly $20 million.

It sure sounds like Ronnie Stanley never planned to leave the Ravens for Chiefs

While money is a strong motivator for a lot of players in the league, it's hard to fault the ones who value sticking with the team that got them to where they are. Stanley has spent the entirety of his nine-year career in Baltimore and the Ravens were loyal to him despite him battling injuries in recent years.

It'd have been awesome if the Chiefs could have pried Stanley away from the Ravens and had a left tackle locked up for a few years, but that's not the timeline we live in. Stanley took a hometown discount to re-sign with the Ravens and the Chiefs then pivoted to Jaylon Moore, who has only started 12 games in four seasons.

Left tackle has been a headache for Kansas City since Orlando Brown left two years ago. The Chiefs have tried to make it work with Donovan Smith, Wanya Morris, Kingsley Suamataia, and others but nothing has stuck. It'd be awesome if Moore panned out but hopefully the Chiefs are exploring other options and can find their franchise left tackle in the coming years.
