The Kansas City Chiefs defense is already thinner than they want to be in the second level of the defense, but now things are even worse with the news that linebacker Willie Gay Jr. has left the team's game against the Denver Broncos in Week 8 due to a tailbone injury.
The Chiefs have officially designated Gay as questionable to return.
Gay went down in the second half of their road game at Mile High Stadium in Week 8. So far, the Chiefs are surprised to find themselves losing 14-9 at the time of Gay's injury.
Being without Gay is going to make things very difficult for the Chiefs' defense going forward knowing they are also operating without Nick Bolton, a team captain and the primary leader of the linebacking corps. The Chiefs have solid depth there, but Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal are now the primary linebackers while backups like Jack Cochrane are going to have to step up.
