The Kansas City Chiefs play their first divisional game this weekend, as they head to California for a showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs are 3-0 after knocking off the Ravens, Bengals, and Falcons in their first three games while the Bolts are 2-1 after beating the Raiders and Panthers in the first two weeks and then losing to the Steelers in Week 3.

The Chiefs swept LA a season ago but traditionally, the Chargers have played Kansas City tough. Throw in that Jim Harbaugh is now their head coach and these match-ups are going to be more difficult than they were during the Brandon Staley era of Bolts football.

The Chargers won their first two games by leaning on their run game and it looked just like Harbaugh's time at the University of Michigan. At this point, Chiefs fans know to expect every game to go down to the wire no matter what the point spread or betting odds look like. Expect this match-up with an AFC West rival to go the same way.

Announcers for Chiefs vs. Chargers

  • Lead Play-by-Play Announcer: Jim Nantz
  • Color Commentator: Tony Romo
  • Sideline Reporter: Tracy Wolfson

The Chiefs have only had two sets of broadcast crews for their first four games with the NBC crew calling Weeks 1 and 3 and now the number one CBS crew calling Weeks 2 and 4. There's not much else that needs to be said about this crew at this point since Chiefs Kingdom is used to hearing them call most of their games.

Referees for Chiefs vs. Chargers

Head Referee: Shawn Smith

The head ref for Chiefs vs. Chargers is Shawn Smith, who started as an umpire in 2015 and was promoted to head referee in 2018. He was the head ref for two Chiefs games in 2023: The loss to the Eagles and the win against the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game so KC went 1-1 in the games he was in charge of.
