Who are the announcers and referees for Chiefs vs. Bengals today?
The Kansas City Chiefs are used to facing the Cincinnati Bengals later in the regular season but after Joe Burrow missed last year's match-up with a season-ending wrist injury, the NFL didn't want to take any chances of key players missing this game. So, here we are, in Week 2 with the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting the Bengals.
Chiefs fans have gotten used to watching their team take on the Bengals considering that this has become one of the hottest rivalries in the NFL over the past two years. These teams played in the AFC Championship Game in two consecutive years with the Bengals taking the first match-up and Kansas City taking the second.
Because these two teams have played each other in big games, it's always Jim Nantz and Tony Romo calling the game. These are the top dogs for CBS so when you hear them calling your team's game, you know it's one of the premier match-ups.
The announcers set the tone for the game because they tell us what they're seeing and also getting excited (sometimes too excited if it's Romo) when big things happen. The referees can also set the tone for the game because they can call penalties whenever they see fit. Sometimes we get flag-happy refs and other times, we have refs who let the players play.
Announcers for Chiefs vs. Bengals
- Lead Play-by-Play Announcer: Jim Nantz
- Color Commentator: Tony Romo
- Sideline Reporter: Tracy Wolfson
We all knew this was going to be the broadcast team covering this game because it's always this crew for Chiefs vs. Bengals. Every time these two teams have met up during the Joe Burrow, it's been Nantz, Romo, and Wolfson on the call. No surprises here.
Referees for Chiefs vs. Bengals
H3: Head Referee: Alex Kemp
Kemp has been a head referee since 2014 and first officiated a Chiefs game three weeks into that season. The Chiefs won that game.
Last year, Kemp was the head ref for one Chiefs game, which came in Week 4 when they narrowly escaped MetLife Stadium with a win over the Jets. He reffed one Bengals game and that was when Cincinnati hosted the Bills in Week 9.
In other words, the Chiefs and Bengals were 1-0 when Kemp was the head ref in their games. Something has to give for this match-up.
