Here's a rundown of everything you need to know for Kansas City Chiefs training camp?

MIssouri Western State in St. Joseph. Practice sessions are held on the Mosaic Training Fields.

When does Chiefs training camp start?

While players will report in the few days before the first public practice, fans will be able to attend their first practice session to see the team on Sunday, July 21. That day will be a special one to open training camp with the full team providing autographs. Entry fee on that day will be $5.

The Chiefs players will be in training camp through Thursday, August 15, a total of three-and-a-half weeks at St. Joseph. From there, the Chiefs will pack up and head back to Arrowhead for any practices or meetings as the preseason schedule finishes up.

Why do the Chiefs go away for training camp?

The Chiefs are one of the few NFL franchises that still leave their home stadium for a more rustic or rudimentary experience together for training camp. Without the comforts of home or the distractions of being in a familiar space, some NFL teams—including those led by head coach Andy Reid—prefer to build camaraderie by removing those elements in a separate space. More and more NFL teams are shifting training camp locations to home, but the Chiefs remain one of the few holding out with a separate experience.

Are there special practices for Chiefs season ticket holders?

The second day of training camp—Monday, July 22—is the first of two scheduled season ticket holder days in which the practice will be otherwise closed to the public. The second such day is Wednesday, August 7. Both days will feature the entire team signing autographs following practice.

What are the key position battles to watch in Chiefs training camp?

Offensive tackle is perhaps the most important position of all to watch as the Chiefs sort through young competitors like Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia. If things go well, one of them will claim the blindside protector role for Patrick Mahomes. If not, a move for a veteran could be made.

Other positions to watch are in the backfield at running back, where all sorts of opportunities are there for the taking from younger players, and cornerback, where L'Jarius Sneed's departure leaves a significant hole to fill. Also, keep an eye on returner to see how the Chiefs approach special teams changes—and whether Louis Rees-Zammit is ready for the NFL.
