"Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason to live
They got little hands, little eyes
They walk around tellin' great big lies..." -
Randy Newman, "Short People"

Randy Newman went a little overboard in his critique of "Short People" in his late-'70s hit of the same name. That said, maybe he was onto something when taking in the latest quotes from Tyreek Hill. Short people have as many reasons to live as anyone else, but Tyreek is walking around telling a lot of great big lies these days.

On Monday, Hill went on record saying he was a better player than Patrick Mahomes. We're also pretty sure he's called Tua Tagavailoa better at something than Mahomes in the past. (Honestly we try not to pay too much attention.)

Hill is, of course, the best wide receiver in the NFL these days, a player who turned the corner with the Kansas City Chiefs from gadget player to deep threat to well-rounded wideout to elite playmaker. In his tenure in K.C., he not only became the best wide receiver in franchise history but he set the top of the market as the greatest offensive weapon in the game today.

Over the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Hill has been a revelation at the position with consecutive 1,700 yard seasons in an explosive passing attack that features Jaylen Waddle as well. If Hill was ever on the fence as a future Hall of Fame candidate, his last two seasons in South Florida cemented his place as an all-time legend—and he's still very much in his prime.

So when host Kay Adams of Up & Adams asked him the question if he was a better player than Patrick Mahomes or not, it wasn't such an outrageous ask given Hill's level of confidence, his familiarity with the comparison, and his own level of production. And let's not forget that Tyreek was voted as the NFL's No. 1 overall player in the league's top 100 for 2024—three spots ahead of Mahomes.

Here's the back and forth between Adams and Hill.

Adam: "Are you a better player than Patrick Mahomes?"

Hill: 'Yeah, for sure. I’m him."

Adams: "What’s the argument?"

Hill: "My argument is that, look, you gotta understand. You gotta look at it like this."

Adams: "Okay."

Hill: "Pat is great. He’s great obviously for his team, you feel me? They won two back-to-back Super Bowls yadda yadda. They did their thing. You look at me. Two back-to-back 1,700. Pro Bowl. All-Pro. This, that. All-Decade. This consistency. All that. You feel me? And I’m doing this at 5’8 … A lot of people said I couldn’t be a receiver and here I am doing this. I’m giving all the short kings out there hope. All the short kings across the world hope."

Hey, we don't want to discredit Hill too much here. He's a supremely gifted player. And if he wants to help elevate the short kings of the world, we're here for it. But we're also pretty sure Randy Newman nailed the behavior of short people—or at least one such person—nearly 50 years ago.
