It was only several minutes ago that the entirety of Chiefs Kingdom banded together with a common prayer and hope that Travis Kelce wouldn't have to miss too much time. Now we're once again crying together, but it's a cheer of celebration after watching Kelce return to the game to score an incredibly heroic touchdown in the third quarter against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Chiefs are currently up 27-13 over the Vikings in a non-conferencen road game at U.S. Bank Stadium. Unfortunately the stadium is home to the world's worst playing surface, and it was on that artificial turf that Kelce went down with less than two minutes left in the first half to an ankle injury that looked very serious.
During halftime, Kelce reportedly had x-rays and most fans likely would have bet on Kelce's day being over, especially with a short week coming up against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football—and a long season ahead with goals for a Super Bowl run.
Instead, Kelce appeared with his helmet on in the second half. After sitting out the opening drive, the Chiefs allowed Kelce back in and he ended up catching a four-yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up by two scores.
What's even more amazing is that it was Kelce's FOURTH catch of the drive. He had another 3 catches for 27 yards on that drive alone. Amazing!
We weren't the only ones impressed with such an unexpected and tremendous showing. Even the announcers were able to give it a proper dramatic framing.
And of course, we love some of the responses from Chiefs Kingdom
You know someone had to make the joke.
