The Chiefs' ideal decision for each defensive free agent

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to embark upon a quest to extend their dynasty and potentially become the first team to win three-straight Super Bowls. Appropriately, addressing a laundry list of pending defensive free agents is the key to getting the offseason off to a good start.

DT Derrick Nnadi

Derrick Nnadi might be the biggest lightning rod on this list of pending defensive free agents. Ask 10 Chiefs fans what kind of player Nnadi is and you're likely to get a few different answers. When the chapter closes on Nnadi, he'll have made 86 of 98 starts for the Chiefs and mostly done so to little fanfare. This past season, he received a paltry 40.6 grade from PFF. I think the time has come for a bit of an overhaul to the defensive line interior. This begins with Nnadi. Despite him being an ironman throughout his career, at this stage, I'd allow him to walk.

DT Tershawn Wharton

Kansas City's interior defensive line is the position likeliest to see the most turnover in 2024. Fifth-year man "Turk" Wharton is yet another defensive tackle with an expiring contract. Unlike the other two, Wharton has only been a role player in his four seasons with Kansas City. On rare occasions, he's flashed and shown enough to make one wonder if he could handle more on his plate. In practice, his snap share has receded every season since joining the team. This was perhaps the easiest decision of the players on this list. Thanks for everything, Tershawn.
