Earlier this offseason, Joe Burrow called the Chiefs the NFL's "gold standard" for success and said he was hungry to be the team to take them out. Compared to most teams, the Bengals have to actually feel decent about their ability to do so. Even in losses, they play tough football each and every week and the brewing rivalry here is turning into something real.
What would be huge here for the Bengals is to see how quarterback Joe Burrow is holding up after undergoing surgery on his right wrist. It might feel weird to throw him straight into the fire against the Chiefs, but often what a player needs to mentally get past an injury is to force his instincts to take over. One series against the Chiefs would likely bring Burrow back to the present pretty quickly.
As for the matchup, Burrow versus Mahomes sells itself, and the winner would have serious bragging rights early in the conference race.
