Recent Super Bowl betting trend massively favors Chiefs against 49ers

As if Kansas City Chiefs fans needed anything else to make them feel confident ahead of their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years, there's yet another stat that backs up the Chiefs getting the win against Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers.

Going back the past 16 Super Bowls, the underdogs are 12-4 against the spread.

In case you didn't already know, the Chiefs are set as the betting underdogs in this game. It's not a massive spread, but the Chiefs are currently 1.5-point underdogs. That means if they cover the spread, there's a great chance they win the game too barring a one-point 49ers victory.

Chiefs thrive as underdogs

That underdog trend is going to line up quite nicely for the Chiefs. Dating back to last week against the Ravens, there was plenty of talk of just how good they've been when set as betting underdogs in the Patrick Mahomes era.

In fact, after beating the Ravens, they're now 10-1-1 against the spread and 9-3 straight up when set as the underdog since Mahomes took over as their starting quarterback.

The Chiefs were 1.5-point underdogs to the Eagles in last year's Super Bowl as well, but went on to win by a final score of 38-35. Kansas City was the betting favorite in its other two Super Bowl appearances in the Mahomes era, going 1-1 both straight up and against the spread with a win and cover as a 1-point favorite to the 49ers in Super Bowl 44, but an outright loss as a 3-point favorite to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.
