Ranking the quarterbacks in the AFC West
By Grant Tuttle
4. Jimmy Garoppolo, Las Vegas Raiders
Backups: Brian Hoyer, Aidan O'Connell
The Raiders finally decided to move on from Derek Carr in the offseason. Now, at the helm, they have former 49er, Jimmy Garoppolo calling the shots under center. While Carr was consistently unable to win big games and get to the postseason, Garoppolo has had some success in big games. With that in mind, the skillset and talent level of both Garoppolo and Carr is comparable.
Josh McDaniels seems to be banking on Garoppolo to exceed expectations in a big way. After an underwhelming first year at the helm, McDaniels is trying to create a New England offense of old. With Jakobi Meyers joining the fray at receiver with Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, there are reasons for optimism. With that in mind, it seems unlikely that Garoppolo will move the needle enough to make the Raiders a competitor for 2023-2024.
2022-2023: 207/308, 67.2%, 2,437 yards, 16 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 33 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns.
2023-2024 projection: 388/633, 61.2%, 3,992 yards, 21 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 119 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown.
