When a player has the talent to completely reimagine the single most important position in all of American team sports, he's likely going to reside at the top of most lists. For Patrick Mahomessdsdfae, another year brings another perch atop the list of top players for 2023.

The latest iteration of player rankings comes via ESPN which just released its Top 100 Players for the upcoming NFL season. And for the fourth season in a row, Mahomes is No. 1 overall.

If Mahomes is able to maintain that sort of a hold as the best player in the game during seasons in which the Chiefs were knocked off of their post as AFC champs, then it should have been clear Mahomes would be No. 1 again after an NFL season in which K.C. won another Super Bowl title and the Chiefs quarterback was named league MVP.

What else can be said about Mahomes that hasn't already been covered a dozen times or more? He's the new face of the NFL, a player with a first-ballot HOF resume despite being a starter for only five years. That MVP is his second, as was the Super Bowl MVP that followed in February. He's a household name even in non-sporting crowds, and he's only going to get bigger.

As for other Chiefs, there were four others recognized on that same list from the NFL. Tight end Travis Kelce clocked in at No. 12, while defensive tackle Chris Jones landed at No. 27. Offensive linemen Creed Humphrey and Joe Thuney came in at No. 80 and 95, respectively.d
