At this point, Patrick Mahomes is almost finished going "around the world", you might say, against the rest of the NFL. With such sustained success at the beginning of his career as a starting quarterback, the two-time NFL MVP has already beaten nearly every single NFL franchise and outperformed every single starting quarterback in the league in his first handful of seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs.
One matchup that has eluded him, however, has been the ability to take on the Minnesota Vikings. It's not all that often that the NFC North will rotate through—every four years—and somehow the Vikings have also failed to link up with the Chiefs in any sort of one-off competition or playoff matchup. Despite being the Chiefs starting quarterback since 2018, Mahomes still hasn't had the chance to take on the Vikings or play against Kirk Cousins.
There has only been one such opportunity to date so far, back in 2019, when the Chiefs hosted Minnesota in Week 9. However, that was one of a couple of weeks in which Mahomes was dealing with a knee injury and veteran Matt Moore got the start in his place. The results were still the same for the Vikings either way, but they at least played it close with Moore under center. K.C. went home with a 26-23 victory.
For Cousins, Week 5 represents a chance for him to at least get his first win against K.C. in his career. There have been three other such attempts dating back to 2013, Andy Reid's first season as the team's head coach. Cousins is 0-3 in his career vs. Kansas City, including that close loss in 2019.
