Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs walked away from Arrowhead Stadium with a 1-0 record to start the season on Thursday. Their win over the visiting Baltimore Ravens was a game that was about as dramatic as the NFL could deliver, especially in the closing seconds. In the end, a reversed touchdown call ended the game in the Chiefs' favor by a final score of 27-20.

In case you missed it, the Ravens got the ball back with the Chiefs up seven and proceeded to march down the field despite having used their timeouts earlier in the half. It was when the Ravens hit the red zone that things got really dramatic.

Patrick Mahomes has some good advice for Isaiah Likely

First, the Ravens looked like they could be on the ropes with the amount of time left and so much real estate ahead of them when Jackson found Rashod Bateman for this big gain to get into the red zone.

Then, as impressive as Lamar Jackson had been on the night as a dual threat, he missed a couple of wide-open throws for touchdowns early in the final sequence. First, he missed Isaiah Likely, who was the Ravens' best offensive weapon all night, only to see Likely come down hard going out of bounds and come up injured—or at least that's how it looked.

From there, Jackson was gifted a wide-open Zay Flowers running across the end zone with plenty of separation only to miss him with the pass.

Finally, just as Jackson seemed to be melting in the final moments of primetime, he extended a play using his legs and vision to then fire an impressive strike in the back of the end zone to an extended Likely, who had come back into the game, for this incredible touchdown catch. Until it wasn't.

After checking the replay, referee Shawn Hochuli came out and announced the touchdown was actually out of bounds. Just like that, the game was over and the Chiefs were declared the victors.

As dramatic as things were at game's end, and despite the frustration of such a call, rules are rules. Likely owned his mistake and stated as much after the game.

However, he might want to listen to Mahomes, who's been around the league for a bit longer, if he wants a bit of an edge for the next time around.
